Just wanted to know what was going on these days. Yesterday one of my sites was resolving to the old DNS settings, today I see some people are having the same problem and now ALL OF my sites are down with some type of DNS system issue at my host according to internetSeer.
I have submitted a ticket and am waiting. I have 35 sites offline as we speak in my reseller account. Could use some help.

Same problem with me. I can't even log into my control panel now things are so bad.
All my sites are down, and DNS isn't resolving. I contacted them at 1am and they said "there is extremely heavy load on the server, please be patient -- tech support is aware of the problem." 14 hours later, everything's still down. I contact them again, they say there's nothing they can do "until they get the load down" and to please be patient. How much patience should I be expected to have? I have had NO e-mail from my sites in 14 hours, and ALL my sites are down now. How long does it take to resolve a high-load issue like this?? |

It depends on the issue. If the load issue is something simple, then it doesn't take long at all, if its a major issue, then it could take a while. They have to identify the source and stop it. If the source is external to the server, then have to block it. If its a determined attack, it may be impossible to stop.

Things seem to have calmed down now. Sites are responding normally... Yeesh... 15-16 hours down...
Hope they figured out what was wrong... Server load is around 0.89 Before it was up to like 12.xx and 13.xx ! BTW, I am on gator183.hostgator.com Last edited by volswagn; 02-09-2007 at 04:40 PM. |

Hi, I am based in Thailand and we have issues with DNS here as well. Nothing crippling, just slow.
The following report from dns stuff dot com - apparantly a global attack on root name servers, not sure if this is relevant to what you are talking about here but nevertheless, surely has some bearing: I Quote: Newburyport, MA – February 9, 2007 – DNS stuff . com, a global leader in DNS issues and tools with one of the largest communities of IT professionals on the Web, today issued a warning and called for greater preparedness as a result of the recent attack targeting root servers. This attack is the latest in a series of distributed denial-of-service attacks targeting DNS servers that began late last year. “It is likely that this latest apparent probing effort was testing the resiliency of DNS,” explained Paul D. Parisi, CTO of DNSstuff.com. “This could be a harbinger of more targeted attacks against .com parent servers or even individual enterprise servers, neither of which may have the resiliency or redundancy of the systems attacked earlier this week. Either of these scenarios could have catastrophic consequences for the Internet-at-large or specific organizations.” That is about it, but I even heard about this on CNN and BBC on the old televshun. Cheers
