I've noticed on my vbulletin forums that the server loads have been VERY high, Average of 4 and spiking up to 14. I've noticed quite a drop on response time as a result.
I'm on a reseller account but I'm just hosting a couple of forums etc and we don't actually need all the space/accounts we have. I want to get the server load down to .5 to 1 ...what type of account should I move too? Will a Semi Dedicated do? I do need multilple accounts (like the reseller account) but those would be for our use only. We expect rapid growth and I don't want trouble later, basically I need the silver reseller account features on a server that is way less busy. |

Your not going to see loads under 1 on a shared server. Loads less than 4 should be fine for a shared server. Keep in mind that the load number doesn't change by server type. A shared server can handle a load of 4, where a P4 or Celeron server would be dead in the water at 4.
Loads on the semi-dedicated very greatly, but you will have more CPU in that setup. If you are truely worried about load, then just get a small dedicated machine and trade up as your forum grows. |

i'm just worried with the spikes to 14+ during peak when we are small.
We are adding some features to our site that will require more resources and when I need them are they going to be there. I can see a spike to 4 or 5 being manageable...but 14? |

In the shared environment, you don't need to worry about processor spikes, unless you are causing them. If YOU are causing them, then expect to be suspended.
If the spikes get to be too much for you, then complain via a ticket and they will suspend the account causing the spikes. |
