Default Server load 44

and memory is at 48% or so. I contacted support via chat and they said things were fine (at that moment cpu had settled at 2 or so), however, cpanel did not show any red or yellow lights under server status. How come? I thought that would be a cause for concern, and my site was slow loading.

44% memory is just fine, with CPU only 2 is good to roll, can't think hostgator servers would slow down with this nominal load.

You should check your internet connection or provide your IP to support so they can check if there's any network latency in between.

Yeh, I understand load issues. My sites are slow loading and this is one of the few times they admitted it; probably because it is taking several minutes for simple and highly optimized pages to load. Not to mention, I can't even access cPanel or squirrel mail.

Yet, this is still called 'uptime'. Perhaps they should revise that definition.

If you were unable to use cpanel and webmail there must be some problem on your box, you should notify live chat or open a ticket, I've seen they always take care of it.

I don't see much speed complaints since hostgator upgraded many of their old servers which were getting strainous.

Mostly on a shared account when there's a user over-using his available resources become problem for others, until he's manually or auto-matically suspended.

And now my site is down. Thanks ghpk for the quick response. I'm in live chat now.

Sometimes cPanel's service monitoring daemon crashes and then users see red lights even if status is improved at the moment. But I belive this is the other situation.

This is true, cPanel's "red light/green light" feature, while a good idea, doesn't always show the most accurate situation on the server.

However, I've reviewed the server in question and it is currently at a nominal load of 2. Just so everyone knows, we normally don't even see any slowdown even at 15-20 load, anything past that and we're usually dealing with a script that is either being abused or is just not suitable for a shared environment. I'll keep an eye on this server. Please PM me your ticket number if you're having issues with any of our servers. Thanks.
