Hi,
Please bear with me as I'm a newbie at this whole site building stuff. I just signed up to another provider that allows adult content, but I'm not too happy with the setup. I'm just not savvy enough at this website building stuff, and the user panel seems too complex, and they don't even offer a web builder. Anyway, I'm thinking about canceling and joining HG. I do have a few questions though. With the standard hatchling plan, are we allowed to upload video content? If so, approximately how much? Is it even possible to upload video using the provided website builder? I messed around with the demo...never saw the option. We would like to make this a members site. Would it be possible to easily run a third party subscription program? Again, we are totally new to this kinda stuff. Did a lot research, but geez....I'm sure it's a lot less complex then it seems to run a proper site. Thanks for any help! |

Also I am not sure if HG allows adult content, I would consult sales or the terms of service agreement.

if you are into adult thing, then consider huge huge traffic consumption and concurrent connections, shared hosting won't be able to cope with this load...
Think of VPS, should help you

I'd look at a VPS or a dedicated server at a company that does adult hosting. Your demands are going to be huge.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, HG does support adult content, which is why I'm here
I didn't even see the VPS option to begin with...it does look better suited. I'll have to look more into it.It'll only be my wife and I, so I'm not too concerned about heavily traffic. At least not initially. Thanks for the help. Think I'm gonna switch

You can start with a shared hosting and then upgrade as you get more traffic. No need to start with a VPS. VPS anyway doesn't offer any better perormance / resources compared to shared hosting and it is made clear on HG forums itself. The proper action plan should be to start with a shared hosting account and upgrade to a dedicated server only when you need to.
It is easy to upload a video to Youtube / similar websites that allows adult content, get the code and paste it on your pages. But that would also mean that you share the content with some other sites, which may not be acceptable to you. Setting up a proper site that can upload and convert to flv, along with membership functionalities needs complex PHP scripts and you will need professional help for such a site. Site builders only allow you to create static pages, which is not what you want. You might be able to install a PHP script using the script installer and customize it a bit, still the site you are planning is complex and you will need a PHP programmer to help you. There are easier solutions like a WP blog where you post the content with a payment plugin, still these might need some skills get working.

Shared hosting should be fine for now. I agree with alem about not starting off with VPS right away. And you can upgrade if need be.
