Default SEO Topic

I think we should have a SEO Topic on this forum.

Evan, I like the idea but I'd like it even better if it could be expanded slightly to cover all aspects of attracting customers.

As important as search engines are for that, they shouldn't be seen in a vacuum.

Also, even if it's called "SEO" a certain percentage will be about other stuff anyway, given the history of several other categories, so broadening it slightly to be "Marketing and SEO" or such might be more effective.

There are so many SEO forums already out there though. Something like webmasterworld can give beginners far better "beginning" SEO information than I think we'd be able to here.

That was part of my reasoning in thinking "Marketing"...while SEO is a subset of marketing, we've discussed many other aspects of marketing/promotion here.

For example, Adwords, strictly speaking, would be off-topic in SEO, but not in marketing.

And just as there's a place for HG-oriented PHP questions, for example, despite a wealth of very good specialized PHP fora, we've had forum threads about SEO modules for CMS stuff, rewriting URLs, domain names, and others with some relationship to SEO.

Not really, those sound more like one of those grayhat blogs (or one of those high-production value newsletters that somehow appear in several of my in-boxes).

If the "Promotion" category hadn't turned into a place for show-and-tell, critiques, and such it would be the logical place for stuff like how to add value; whether local advertising did anybody any good; press releases; niche markets; and yes, SEO.

I don't mean a whole new forum. I just mean a topic here, like "Suggestions" or "Reseller Chat."

Evan, I don't think anybody thought you meant a separate forum...IMO Matt was thinking that a category here was superfluous because of other fora.

One of the reasons I like the idea, particularly if the category were broader, is that our forum members seem a lot easier to talk to than people at fora devoted to "monetization" or methods thereof, such as SEO. Less like vultures.
