Default SEO: Addon Domains vs. Separate Accts.

Will I get any SEO benefit from linking my own addon domains back to my main site, or am I better off opening separate hosting accounts for each of the other domains THEN linking them back to the main site, or none of the above?

AFAIK, to a search engine, an addon domain is completely indistinguishable from a domain on a different hosting account.

I guess I was wondering if search engines weigh IP addresses in their algorithms that reward you for the number of links to your site. In other words, if they see sites linked to your site but also see that those linked sites are likely to be your own (tricky, tricky, tch tch) because they have the same IP address, then I would want to get a separate account for any such sites. Right?

But in that case, you're talking about only a few links to your site (from your other site). Whether they "count" with the search engines or not isn't likely to make any difference to your site's visibility. Unless lots of other sites are linking to yours, you're not going to do very well.

You may want to consider SEOhosting.com from hostgator, if you want to make it look like links from unrelated sites. I am no SEO expert, but that is what people normally do for such link building.

That's good advice. I'll check it out.
