It has been a long, strange journey... my search fer the web host I would use. I have tried many, and have tried here several times before. All this while, over these few years, I've been in sorta a limbo with my sites... not really knowin yet exactly where I wanted to head withem and all, so I wouldn't have to tare down and rebuild too awful much.
Now though, I am ready to launch all of my stuff, and I have decided that there is no longer any doubt whose servers my bits will be nexused upon. I've spent the last... WOW... just checked... signed back up one month ago today, Nov 17th! Other than register_globals bein on by default, I am really, really, really lovin the whole Hostgator package. I am very much impressed by the new custom panel theme and functions too. Anyways, I am goin to go ahead and sell my soul to Hostgator. Dreamhost almost gite it... but in the final, final rounds they blew it and I'm actually quite grateful... I am preferenced towards havin my sites on Southern servers anyways! So far, over this last month here, the support has always been thare for me and given everythang their all... I very much appreciate havin the around the clock phone access... it makes a lot of difference bein able to communicate as efficiently as you can via voice. Also, my sites are servin beautifully. MySQL is snappy and I am trilled. In the past I've been critical of Cpanel, but the more I learn it's functionality, especially with the unbelievable ease thare now to do backups of files and dbs, I am seein more and more the wisdom of usin it. The functionality and portability it allows is really somethin. Alright, that's it fer now... but I will have more to say on this later... I aint really even gite to the good stuff about Hostgator at all... yet! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Man, I just aint gite the time to tell it proper, but I will tell you this in short... Brent Oxley is a super fine example of human bein... he really is. I feel very good about my web hostin dollar to go to a feller's business that is actually sincere about bein a positive force in the world. He does his DANGDEST to give people badly needed GOOD JOBS! While I don't personally WANT no job of no kind other than werkin fer myself, I am very much an appreciator of folks bein able to have GOOD JOBS, because life is some HARD STUFF and it really makes bein able to enjoy yore existence more when you have a GOOD JOB.
So, I will probly wind up commissionin a statue of him in honor later when I have extra money, and he will be part of a collection. I will probly have one representin those dock werkers down in South Africa that refused to unload Mugabe's guns as well, so it will be in some good company! I kid you not... I mean this from the bottom of my heart... Brent Oxley fer President 2016!!! Last edited by GatorDHanna; 01-01-2009 at 01:56 PM. Reason: Language |

Still rockin well. I am spendin a lot of time in the backend of thangs and settin up like a like and just really familiarizin myself with the whole system here and the deeper I go the better I feel. I am very much lookin forward to the day I can git me a dedicated er 10!
I am very impressed also by the experiences of others. I just read Mr. Dewt's review and thangs like that make a feller feel comfortable with settlin in. Also, Mr. Dewt made a GOOD funny in thare! Here tis, in case one day in the future when his thread aint near thisun folks will be able to see it: http://forums.hostgator.com/happy-and-sad-t42271.html And agin, one more shout out to BRENT!!! Had a VERY rough evenin. In the interest of full, balanced reportin...
- Removed an add on domain so I could re-add it with my new directory structure. - Re-added, but those damn ad portal pages kept showin... - Called support, feller thought he fixed it, told me to delete and re-ad and would be good... was not. Could not even delete add on... said I did not control the domain. - Called support, feller messed around, said he removed some DNS entries or somethin, site ACTUALLY STARTED LOADIN, thought was good, but then went to create an email acct and that domain didn't show in the dropdown as a choice. Also discovered from next tech that site was loading fer ME but not HIM, despite closing Firefox which I have set to delete cache, openin, deleting browser history, and usin Zone Alarms cache clearin function... very weird! - Called support, feller saw what I saw, but said admin that dealt with this had JUST gone home! Said he would put in a ticket, could take a few hours. Now, I KNOW yall hear this all the time "I'm losin money!", well, I knew for a FACT that I had three weddin video customers lookin at me, and it was after 5pm so I KNEW it would be time fer them to be gittin home and settlin fer business to be done and all, lookin at my website and deciding whether er not to give me a lot of their money, and here I was showin ad portals with my email they had been usin no longer werkin!!! I was SWEATIN and could NOT go "hours". Luckily another admin got aholt of it, and I actually saw the ad on disappear from my panel and was feelin relieved, then saw it ad back in, then got an email tellin that it was fixed, checked, still ad pages. Sent in a reply that it was still ad pages, then gite another sayin it was fixed, and FINALLY it actually was!!! Thing is though, it really makes me nervous that somethin that should be as common as bein able to remove then re-add an add on caused so much trouble, and took about two hours, 3 techs and an Admin to git solved. I want very badly to give nothin but praise, but this event sorta dulls that ability. I am workin FINE right now, but I am still concerned... what if I need to delete and re-add an add on agin? |

Hi,
Thanks for the update and your additional comments. I apologize about the inconvenience. These types of issues can be difficult to diagnose and fix because different people see different things while DNS is still resolving, which is what seems to be the issue in this case. I'm sorry this was a situation that was difficult to correct. As I am sure you know and have experienced, we fix a vast majority of issues very quickly and fully, but some issues will take more than one try or approach to fully resolve. We're always working to ensure that we resolve issues as quickly as possible, but given the nature of the technology we work with, a quick and easy fix is not always possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding. If you ever feel you aren't getting the help you deserve, feel free to ask to talk to a supervisor.

After a lot of thinkin about it all, I realized that the biggest pain of it for me was the dang ad portals that were showing while my sites were down. I really did not think I would be able to get over the potential for that to happen if I tinker the wrong way... and I am a tinkerer! I am like a child in the sand box, having some domain names and a web hosting account!
I have decided I can breath deeply and bond with The Universe any time the ad portals wind up showing on any of my domains for any reason (they are intended to only show when suspended for non payment, but they also show when the DNS is pointing here, but the system isn't presently configed with the domain all the way). I think I can do that. I will also be aware of the awesome level of charitable contributions that it pays for each year, and that will help a lot... it's what allows me to forgive the things, and hope that The Universe makes people wait till my sites come back up before coming and thinking I've closed up shop, or am a portal squatter or whatever! I did something really dumb though, and signed back up with a subdomain, thinking I could then create a better filing system without having all of my domains being in a folder under a "main domain", and discovered that I cannot then use the main of that sub under the sub... so I'm waiting to have my main domain changed! Yes, I am difficult to please, and very meticulous and libel to fly around the world in a seconds notice, so please forgive me my trespasses as I forgive yall yores! I feel very confident that I have already run up on and accepted the worst case scenarios I could run into. Now my only need is to generate $ as quickly as possible on the SHARED level to be able to afford the massive leap between it and managed dedis. I would be a total lost chicken in high weeds with an unmanaged.

Thanks for the update. DNS is frustrating because everyone sees different things and there is no exact way to tell what someone will see at any given time until it is all finished resolving. Luckily, though, most DNS changes resolve quite quickly and most people don't even notice any differences.
