Default Search Engine Submission Question...

Hi everyone!

Well, the meta tags and descriptions are finally finished on my site. What a job that was! I used wordtracker to try and find some good key phrases, but even after spending a week doing nothing but researching words and phrases I'm still not sure how well I've done with it. Down the road I may hire someone to optimize the site for me.

So, now it's time to submit the site to the search engines. I've submitted it to Google and Yahoo. Do I need to submit it to any others or is that enough? Do the smaller search engines find sites to list from Google and Yahoo? If I need to submit to more, fine, but otherwise I don't want to waste my time. I've got other promotions to work on and new products to develop!

Thanks for your input!

Kim

There are a bunch of places that you can submit your domain to and they will submit it to a bunch of search engines. Search for something like "free search engine submission" on google and you will find a bunch of links.

Thanks. Do those really work? I read at Google when I submitted my site that they want sites manually submitted. I've also read that many of the submission sites don't really submit your website at all, that is just sits there on their site. Is any of this true?

I've been trying to submit my site on my own, but this is going to take me a looooooooooooooong time to try and do all the search engines and directories one by one. I don't even know what all the search engines and directories are, so I've had to start by googling to find as many as I can. I've been at this for hours already today and I've only submitted to two places: yahoo and dmoz. There has got to be a better way.

i gone through all these before.. and
conclusion is that .. submission to search engine is just waste of time and effort.

submit to directory instead. would be better.

Thank you, Charles. I've submitted to DMOZ. Any other suggestions? Is there somewhere I can find a list of the best directories to submit to?

There are some good paid directories I use with high page ranks. Email me for the links, I don't know that I want to post them here.

The only three search engines worth submitting to are Yahoo, Google, MSN. Get good incoming links and youŽll be indexed in no time.

Thanks. I did submit to Google, Yahoo and MSN. My goal is to submit my website to five places per day....that includes blogs, forums, other websites, directories, search engines, and anywhere else my website would be welcome and appropriate. I need traffic. I need business. I need sales.

I have been trying to find five places to submit my site to today, but so far no luck. I'm working from a list of free directories I found on the internet. It's a blog post, but it must be an older one because today none of the ones I have tried are free. It would be nice if they would tell me that up front instead of having me type in all my info and then telling me after I hit submit. Big waste of time. But, I have no other list to work from at the moment and I'm only in the B's (it's an alphebetized list), so I'll keep at it until I get to the end of it.

I didn't think it would be this hard or take this long to do just five listings a day. Geez! I've got offline promotions to do as well, so I'm trying to divide my time.

Hi kim... i really enjoy your "saga" over the last few months ..the step by step creation and publishing of a website. you should write a book! anyway, i use an inexpensive do-it-yourself submission tool that checks your keywords and phrases, makes suggestions and lists many search engines and directories for both auto and manual submission. if your interested PM me.

KEEP GOING!!

Hi Kim, make sure the blogs you submit to are related to your site otherwise the effect on SEO will be minimal or non existent. Also, most blog comments have rel nofollow implemented so you wonŽt get any backlink value.

It sounds like you've got a good plan... I know it can seem like a daunting task, but if you stick with it, (and be sure to do a little bit each day), you'll get there.

All the best!
