Positive Script Problems [resolved]

Back in July 2009 I started a forum website and by mistake I hosted with a
company called Siteground.
After few days I realized that I've done a big mistake by hosting with a company
that has not received great feedback.
So I was told that Hostgator is the best...
I tested that out by calling the phone support and trying out the chat and it seemed that Hostgator is the real answer for me and I was happy.

So I signed up for a business account. I wanted to transfer the domain but they said that ur domain should be at least 60 days old with the previous host, so I waited.

During that time I spoke with a tech support and he told me that all my files are now with hostgator and I can do what I ever I like using my hostgator cPanel. But it turned out, that's not the case! files were still there in Siteground.

Anyway I said let me wait until the domain is transferred.

When the 60 days finished I initiated the transfer request within less than a day the Whois info was updated to hostgator which is great.

Then I tried to access the website using hostgator cPanel and found out that I can't make any changes I change the nameserver.

So I changed the nameserver, and guess what, my website reverted back to a point in time when exactly I started hosting with hostgator!

I contacted support and nobody gave me a solution ... then after thorough research I realized that I have to backup the website via cPanel in my old host and ask hostgator to restore for me that file.

So I did and they did ...

This time the email is not working (have no access to it and cannot create new emails).
They said, the backup file that is restored has messed up with the website structure in a way that the email will not work on hostgator server!

After several telephones, an admin finally corrected the problem and I was happy as now everything is hosted with hostgator.

Then I realized that my website (which uses vBulletin software just like this forum) has no URL redirect working anymore (I have vbSEO which redirect php pages to virtual folders and html pages).

So now my website is virtually in accessible and the Google links are pointing to blank pages!

Contacted support, they said that's not our problem!!!

Finally, I decided to switch back to my old host leaving hostgator forever

Hello,

It appears there may have been some misunderstandings over the last couple of months.

First off, you can update your name servers at any time, you do not have to transfer it to our registrar before you can use your hosting account.

When you submitted the backup on September 13th, it was a backup of your website from that day. Any activity that may have been made between the time the backup was restored and when name servers were updated would unfortunately be lost. A lot of forums will close their forum temporarily and post a link to the temporary url of the site on the new hosting account while DNS is updating to avoid issues like this.

Your vbSEO has been fixed and the links on your site are working. I checked your ticket history and do not see this mentioned on your restore ticket. I also do not see where we stated that it was "not our problem", if you have a chat or ticket ID where this was stated, please provide it so we can look into it as this was an easy fix. The .htaccess file just needed to be updated.

As of now your site is up and running with no issues. If you need any further assistance please let us know and we will be more than happy to help.

When did u look at my website?

because just few minutes ago I disabled vbSEO and that was the only way to get the URLs working

the support agent who told me "we do not support such issues" was on the phone and not on ticket or chat.

I can assure you that the problem is still there

Whenever, I re-enable the vbSEO all the redirected URLs will send visitors to blank pages.

Now, that I have disabled vbSEO, I have to wait for sometime until Google crawls the new URLs which is a great loss.

I like hostgator and I adore the immediate availability of support techs but this story of mine has taken a very long time and it came to no solution. Perhaps, because am a newbie in the field of hosting and domain registrations but I assure u I was misled on several occasions.
  • The support tech should have not told me to update nameservers before backing up and moving the site into hostgator cPanel.
  • The admin who restored the website should have not messed up with the mail folders only to be corrected later.

I had our support manager review your account when I was working on my reply and vbSEO was working when my reply was posted. It appears that you disabled it shortly after. Please re-enable it and reply to the ticket that we have opened (BJW-12459522) concerning this so we can work it out with you through the ticket system.

I apologize for anyone that may have told you that we couldn't help over the phone as that is definitely not the case. If you recall who it was that you spoke with, please PM me their name.

Unfortunately when a transfer/restore takes place, certain things will need to be modified sometimes in order for everything on the account to work. We will work with you on the current open ticket and will address any issue that you have, just let us know what all needs to be fixed.

Thank you.
