Default Scan ID??

Hi. Today I have setup an account with hostgator for a 1 yr hatchling plan and sent payment using paypal.. Never received an E-mail so spoke with someone from Live Chat stating the account needed to be verified by government issued ID.. Contacted hostgator by telephone and told the same thing.. Now, what causes the verification to take affect on certain customers when it didn't affect my neighbor (How I heard about hostgator..) who has done the same WITHOUT verification?? I don't feel comfortable sending in scanned images of government issued ID's for a personal website.. Any other way of doing this? My account has since been refunded and cancelled as I was told by a rep that scanned ID is the only way, but, I would like to do business with hostGator as the hosting plans seem decent.. Thanks.

If they've advised that you need to send them verification, you'll need to send them verification.

The only other thing I can suggest is to ask your neighbor to create an account for you and then you can pay him back.

I called.. They are the ones who advised me to send Government ID.... I will try to set it up again once paypal has refunded me as it was cancelled by a rep on the phone at that number instead of verifying my account...

Your account is not currently marked to require an ID, I have added a note to your billing account to ensure that you will be able to verify over the phone. Please call us again, we apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Ok. As soon as paypal refunds my cash as it was a 1yr agreement and the funds were a transfer from bank account as opposed to a credit card payment, I will re-do it. Thanks for the help!

I have created a new account and have sent payment.. Now I am being asked to scan ID again by e-mail. Can my account be flagged to be verified over phone again? If not, can i call one of you to do the verification? I don't feel safe sending ID in.. Thanks.

The new account (client ID 80259) is already active and does not require verification. If this is not the right account, please PM me the email address that you signed up with.
