Default Saved with a .shtml extension

Hi all,
I deleted my home page then created a new "text" file named "index.shtml
where I copied and pasted my html code
in my "public html directory".
now I get a 404 when I try and load my home page?
do I need to edit my ".htacess file" if so what is the correct
code to use the .shtml ext.

Thanks in advance
Randy

No, there should be no need to do anything to the .htacess to use an shtml. The default apache config will usually look for .html/.htm then .shtml and go onto .php etc...

It's strange you're getting a 404... we'd likely need to know more info... best to email support @ hostgator.com with the particulars and have them fix it up

The DirectoryIndex line in your .htaccess file is telling the site to load index.html as the default page. You need to add index.shtml to that line (or change index.html to index.shtml) to cause it to load your main page.
