Satisfied with MySQL speed on shared plans?

Hi,

I'm currently with Dreamhost on my shared plan. I run Wordpress and CMS Made Simple among other things. Nothing really heavy and definitely not a heavy load.

However, in the nearly 2 years I've had the account, I've very often been dissatisfied with the speed of the MySQL. I'm not sure if it's the connections, resolving the names (they don't use localhost but rather full domains) or what, but just loading a database-driven page sometimes takes multiple seconds.

So, I'm wondering if anybody can comment on Hostgator's ability to provide speedy connections/queries/MySQL in general. I'd be especially interested to hear from people who saw similar issues as I am with Dreamhost. I'd be looking at a HG shared plan as I just cannot justify the semi-dedicated pricing, at least until I figure-out the secret to making cash online
