Default How to run fsck

Hey guys,

ive been playing around with a test box in my house (CentOS 4.5)

and i want to see what fsck does etc

Can anyone tell me how to run one safely?

fsck should be run on a partition that is not mounted. Where do you want to run fsck ? if it's on the root "/" partition you should boot your box in single mode . If you want to run fsck in a partition like /home or other that you can dismount without a special boot then just umount /home and then you may run fsck with no problem.

My background is more sysadmin like while yours is more web developer / web designer like. I'm sure my answers about those subjects will be much worse then yours
