I am looking for a dedicated host, but I would like a dedicated without root access to be completely sure that the service is Fully Managed.
Do hostgator offer this service? Thank you very much |

No, Hostgator does not offer any dedicated hosting that is neutered so you can't access the box root. I suggest you go some place else where they welcome huge restrictions on access to something that you are paying a fortune each month for.

Isn't root access one of the points of getting a dedicated server?
Serra, it isn't as if anybody is forcing them to use it, is it? Or is this a strange way to make sure "Fully Managed" is doing the job? Kind of like taking away phone buttons to make sure the operators earn their paychecks... |

Having a dedicated with root access is like having your own vehicle to do your own errands in a timely manner and not wait on a taxi or Limousine to take you there.
If I where rich enough to afford to have someone take care of my server 24/7 at my bidding, what fun is that. This way your always learning something. Keeps the mind from going to sleep premature later in life. Then again, if I had that kind of dollars, what am I doing here? I would be laying around on some tropical Island drinking brewskies all day.

But I have a hostgator semidedicated that it is like a VPS without root access (500 Gb Bandwidth) and I am very glad about it. I would like something like this. Wouldn`t it be the same?
Sorry for my english I know it is not very good. Thank you very much |

Not having root access is not really a problem, root access was once the holly grail of hosting, but is far from a make or break feature any more. Root access is VERY handy, but technical. It is not for people with limited experience. It is very easy to damage things with root.
I would say that root access is something that I would want, if possible for all accounts, but something I would demand if I was renting a whole server or VPS. If you are on a semi-dedicated, you wouldn't expect root access because you wouldn't want anyone else to have it either. |
