Hi guys,
I'm developing software called Rhinofile. It's a PHP/MySQL software that sends out large files similiar to yousendit or sendthisfile. It differs in the fact it runs in the LAN and shoots(Rsync over SSH) the files out into the DMZ or on an internet host. The great thing is, it plugs into Active Directory, has group policies, quota's and other features. Files expire after a set period which is normally 7 days. It's great for companies sending contracts, CAD diagrams or PDF brochures. I'm testing different hosting providers and I'm going to "certify" that they are compatible with the client end of the software. I'm going to have to support them so I need to ensure the providers meet the requirements. The intranet software will be a Vmware image which they can just boot using Vmware player/Server or ESX. Could somebody comment and let me know if this is ok? The application uses barely any IO, CPU, RAM. It only uses what ever disk space the client sends. For example: You would log onto your intranet, log in with your windows username and password, and upload up to 5 files. If you sent a 10 meg PDF brochure to 5 clients, it would shift a copy of the 10 meg file to the internet server. The 5 clients would then receive an email link to the file. The file would then expire in 7 days. If a client wanted to send you a file, they could log onto the internet dropbox, they would upload the file and it would send you a link to download the file. I just wanted to make sure it was ok for me to recommend Hostgator in this situation. Ross Richards www.rhinofile.com |

I think you should ask sales, but I don't think much of the backstory about your software is necessary-- it just confuses the issue. I personally thought you were talking about running a part of it on the Hostgator server for a while (getting VMWare on that, maybe getting a Windows box to support Active Directory, etc...).
Essentially you want to upload a few files to the HG box using Rsync and then send people links to those files. Is that correct? This potentially violates a few Terms of Service conditions (unless you get a dedicated): Quote:
