Angry Restore of VPS backup error

OK, here is a really big bug. So last night at 11pm 'ish I made a backup of my container. Today around 9am both my DNS and OpenVPN services stopped responding. Tonight I sit down to take a look, bind just needed a kick in the pants, but OpenVPN isn't co-operating. OK, well lucky I made that backup last night, right? Wrong!

I stopped my container, and ran the restore. After restoring 100% of the files, I get an error:

Operation restore_env with the Env(s) "<MYDOMAIN>" is finished with errors: Failed to check template consistency, code 52. See vzpkg(8) manpage for more information.

Whoops!

I'm on with support right now and they are looking into it. Let this be a reminder to always keep a remote backup of your system as well.

Part 2.

OK so here comes the "soft launch" demons. Chat support was all willing to help. They spoke with the VPS admins who told him "Level 1 VPS is unmanaged, so I would need to email support". Ok, "soft launch", going to have scope of support misunderstandings. Been there, done that know all about it. http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/ clearly states "Fully Managed VPS Hosting (Default configuration)" and "24/7/365 Top notch support via Phone, Live Chat, and Ticket System (E-mail)" so I should be able to get this fixed through chat, right? Again, scope of support issues get worked out during 'soft launch" processes like this and apparently the VPS admins are still getting a grasp on the scope.

So it is off to email support I go.

Default Re: Restore of VPS backup error

So it looks like the problem was a change in the kernel between when I backed it up and tried to restore it. That explains the 20 minute down time at 2 am.

In the end, I just reset back to the original image and restarted configuring it again. There were a few things I didn't like about my original config, so it was for the best.

Wrong.
If all problems could get fixed through chat support why would anyone open a support ticket?
