I had a free account once as a subdomain. I had my own control panel (Plesk) and ftp, etc... but did not have a domain of my own. My account was a subdomain of the reseller.
I would like to get a reseller account that would allow me to do the same: set up some free users, each with their own control panel and ftp, but with domain names optional. I would, as the reseller, have a domain name for myself. Is this possible here? And are there reasons I would not want to do this? |

Yes it is possible. Main reason not to do it would be people prefer to have their own domain so you might want to do both.

Yes you can... you can setup subdomains as their domain.... just put that in the the WHM instead of their domain, eg: bob.bobo.ca instead of bob.ca

The account would have to be manually created in whm unless you write your own script. WHMAutopilot (at least with 2.5) was unable to automatically create accounts that were subdomains.

I just discovered that you can do it with hSphere, and "Subdomains in H-Sphere are as powerful as regular domains. They support the same services and can be hosted on dedicated IPs" en of the quote.
I think I'll switch to another hosting company unless do you support hSphere? bye Last edited by gus; 11-25-2004 at 02:53 PM. |

Gus,
You can do that with cPanel, i do it all the time. I use it for testing things, i find it easier to install on a subdomain than in a folder. No need to move if thats all you want. --MATT |

Matt,
Gus is asking about a way to automate the creation in whm and billing. WHM autopilot can handle the billing, but I beleive the creation of the account has to be done manually. I do not think that there is software that currently does this. If you know of a way that this can be automated, please let us know. I would be interested as well. - Justin |

I know how you could do it, if your willing to do a bit of php coding your self.
You could write your own script, let me have a look at the WHM code when i get home tonight, and i will see if i can write a mod to do in..... I actually think (would need to try it, which i will when i am home) that would could add the domain as a TLD so with the .com's etc you add in .yourdomain.com and then set the cost of registration for it, but im not 100% sure. I do know however there is a little bug in cPanel with it and that is if you use the master domain on the site. For example if you had the domain example.com and wanted to let people have therename.example.com, but you had a site on example.com it causes some problems is you ever want to move them to another server. There is a workaround for it tho. --MATT p.s. Also if you go dedicated you could do it my manipulating the apache settings diretly, but that would only be for the real pro users.
