Tomorrow I will complete the shared server upgrades and it will become time to move on to the reseller servers. This process will be slightly different in terms of the way we notified our shared customers.
Out of respect for the support teams of our resellers we will be posting notice of the migrations 2-3 days in advance before they are performed. This should give our reseller support teams time in case they would like to bring on extra staff for that period or to just generally be advised and aware that they may receive support requests from their clients. ** ALL NOTIFICATIONS WILL BE MADE ON OUR FORUMS, WE WILL NOT BE E-MAILING OUR CLIENTS ** Overall we have not received many tickets regarding our PHP5/SQL5 migrations as we have developed a script which repairs virtually all of the common issues proactively. This drastically reduces the number of subsequent support requests. If there are any suggestions before we proceed with this please post here and we will take them into consideration. Are you still going to use the script if we opted out a long time ago? I have fixed all my clients sites as well as our own and they are all using the PHP5 addhandler. If your scripts are going to make any changes, I would like some kind of report to tell me which files have been changed. Thanks. I look forward to the upgrade because I just found out that the script that we are developing will not work correct with PHP running as CGI.

The only installation we are repairing directly is oscommerce. We are applying a patch they provide which fixes many issues with MySQL5.
Other than that the only other files we modify are .htaccess and php.ini files. We repair incorrect or damaged php.ini and we change some handlers in htaccess which need to be modified to fit the new setup. Beyond that there won't be anything else modified inside your home directory. When we had the opt out list we were expecting to write an intrusive script which would repair script installations that were damaged by moving from php4 to php5. However upon testing we found that there weren't any really except OSCommerce. Our Chief Technical Officer Dave Collins and myself performed extensive testing on every script offered in fantastico and we were unable to produce any errors except on OScommerce. This led us to develop a much smaller less intrusive script to migrate the servers so the opt out list was no longer necessary.

Thanks for the reply, keeping my fingers crossed....
My main two installs are Drupal and Gallery2 that I am concerned with. Any expected issues with these? Thanks,

bfdexp, I can't remember seeing any errors with either of those scripts. In fact recent versions of Drupal require php5 and will not run on php4.
This was done intentionally to force webhosts to make these kinds of migrations. |

Sounds good thanks. All of our installs are at least Drupal 5, so I am not really scared about the PHP. Worse case sceniero, we can just run the script for php4 and fix the errors.
I am much more nervous about the upgrade with mySQL. Although we have backed up our databases, I am still nervous if they become corrupted from the upgrades. Will keep our fingers crossed, we have our faith and livelihood in your hands...

Any word when the resellers are actually going to start? I am on armada and really need PHP5 installed. I have a script that we are testing on the server now that needs PHP5, but it won't work with PHP5 running as CGI. Let me know. Thanks.

Thanks, Patrick. I'll be on that group there so I will be keeping an eye out on whether it will be done tomorrow or Wednesday.
Someone said on another thread he wished you were installing MySQL 5.0.45 and I'll search deeper after I finish this but I couldn't find which version is being installed other than 5.0.xx (xx unknown). I tested everything locally on a Linux box with 5.0.51 so I feel confident I should run into any issues (crosses fingers). I'm wondering more than anything. Thanks. |

Jean, targa (your server) will be toward the end of the migrations as I'm doing them alphabetically. When the migration is completed on your server PHP5 will begin to function from the temporary URL.

Patrick normally does post when he finishes a batch but he didn't say he actually started them yet. And since he did say Tuesday or Wednesday were the target dates to start on the reseller servers, I'm guessing now it will be done tomorrow.

Hello Patrick,
I am on cadillac but I am on holiday from this Friday (11th) until 23rd. I am guessing my upgrade will occur while I am away? Is there anything I can check before I leave to try and ensure that my client sites will all remain working once the changes happen? I don't relish lots of phone calls while I am abroad on a sandy beach with a cold beer and hot wife! Regards David Goode 3cellhosting.com

Caddy may be done while you're gone since it will be for almost two weeks. But none of the name has been started yet as far as can tell looking for the announcement post. Originally he said Tuesday or Wednesday but not sure and more information forthcoming. But after warning site members of this and repeating that, it's been the last information given. Maybe Tuesday or Wednesday of next week?

David,
There's really not much you can do or need to do. As a courtesy I will do a quick check over your clients sites after I migrate cadillac since you will be out of town.

Tiger,
That was error was due to us compiling PHP on the server, once done, the error should be gone. |

Be aware that all your sites will go off line during the upgrade. even sites that are straight HTML. when I log into WHM the IP for each site is set to "MISSING" apparently this is part of the process.. 3.15pm here (I know there is never a good time)
