I know hostgator doesn't oversell but if my clients all use around 10% of the bandwidth and disk space and around 10% of the of the CPU resources that would occur if lets say all the resources that are paid for would be used. So basically hostgator is overselling because per server they can add more accounts by just adding another hard drive to the machine. I know hostgator might argue that they add servers the minute that load becomes unacceptable but that's the same thing I am opting for. I want to be able to grow and buy extra bandwith and space from hostgator when I see I sold more than 100% of my resources.

It's not really the reselling part I admire but to be able to continue selling and have more time to adapt to the situation. Now I could have a three customers for a "XL account" which could basically block the operation without having used a single megabyte of resource. Another customer wouldn't be able to create an account and would likely be lost. Even limiting overselling to a set percentage would give the reseller time to adapt.

The reseller is responsible for any problems with overselling so I suggest that hostgator gives them that responsibility. WHM has the option to allow reselling so I wanted to ask if there are plans for any change in this policy?

Overall I'm impressed by the way hostgator is running things but this is something that really ought to change. :|

There are currently no plans to allow resellers to oversell, for reasons outlined in the following thread: http://forum.hostgator.com/viewtopic.php?t=1097

When I was bouncing around from web host to web host, I was burned several times simply because I was on a box that allowed overselling. I would hate for that to happen to any of our customers (resold or otherwise)

Overselling is the norm in the hosting business. I find it very comfortable to deal with a company that does not allow this practice. I know I will get what I pay for.

I agree, I think if all of your resources are at 100% you should beable to go over and pay a fee to do so.
