Hello, I have a question regarding customer support/re-seller support.
If I am posting in the wrong section please move my thread to the right area. My question is this: An organization I am apart of has their domain & hosting through a hostgator re-seller. For roughly the past year, the re-seller has been uncontactable. Since I am one of 2 techs that want to update the website. We have no access to the FTP server/CP for the website. (No one knows the login credentials) Does Hostgator have support similar to go daddy, in which the customer can contact hostgator, and work to regain control of the site? In the past they relied on the re-seller to update the website himself. I am aware that when the domain was purchased there was probably an email copy with the customer number etc. However the people in the organization have no clue about the email receipts from the order. Is there any direction I can go or advise this group on what to do or whom to get ahold of? |

I would open a ticket with hostgator (sales@hostgator.com) and provide them with your domain and cPanel username (if you can). And explain the situation to them. They may be able to contact the reseller for you or move your account like you wish. And the fact the reseller did not offer you any type of FTP access.

I appreciate the suggestions on this, to clarify the issue. This is the site in question: http://www.monroecountyrepublicans.com
I do know there is an FTP account associated with the domain etc. At the moment everyone in the county party wants an update. Or a site re-deign, probably with wordpress. I am doubtful even I can find out the cpanel username let alone any details. I will try though! By the way can you re email me. Whatever you sent, I had an outdated email listed. In which it might have bounced. |

I may be stating the obvious but as I see this it's not so much the web site information as that can be scraped/downloaded using different tools I use this HTTrack Website Copier, there are others.
I think your bigger problem is gaining control of the domain name registration this info can be seen here: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/monroecountyrepublicans.com Once you have control of the domain name you can create your own HG account and upload your site The current registrar is WILD WEST DOMAINS, LLC you can contact there support ( http://www.wildwestdomains.com/resellerplans/support.aspx?ci=44053 ) and explain what's happened and ask how you can get control of the domain name. Once you have control, create a new HG account and off you go this is a long way around but can be done. Dave G |
