I`m on the verge of purchasing a HG reseller account. I suppose you could say I have had the luxury of having a reseller account that had overselling enabled, which meant a little less work on my end. However as many know often overselling comes back to bite you as I have found out.
I was wondering, how are the Hostgator resellers able to make something out of their reseller accounts? The Aluminum for example offers 50GB of bandwidth and 5GB space? That means you cannot offer much for sale? So how are folks making this work so you can still offer decent packages to your potential clients and working around the no overselling limitations? I`ve seen some resellers sites on here offering packages more than the reseller account itself! |

Are they dedicated servers instead of reseller accounts, which allow for a lot more flexibility? |

On a dedicated box, you can allow overselling. If you are a reseller, that is the way you should go.

When I first started I made a bad move and did budget hosting. $2/month for 50mb space and 500mb bandwidth. I actually got a lot of clients. That could potentailly be $200/month for the $24/month package, however if i knew then what I know now, I wuold have started with bigger more expensive packages.
It is easy to make money with the HG packages, you just cant offer unrealistic packages like say... http://www.godaddy.com/ • 5 GB Space • 250 GB Transfer for $4/month is unrealistic. It is also easy to shimmy clients away from busniesses like that which oversell so much. |
