I've been told no before, but since HG doesn't sell semi-dedi's anymore which I may need transitionally in the future couldn't a reseller account be used sorta like a semi-dedicated? I've been told by many board members that it's the same as shared hosting as far as resources are concerned I'm talking about for a vbulletin) but I'm assuming a reseller account would have to have more overall. than a regular shared hosting account, otherwise if it was split up into like 25 accounts each person would only get 4% of the resources they would get if they had a shared hosting account from here.
So isn't a resller account kinda like a semi-dedicated in terms of having more overall resources??? EDIT - BY RESOURCES I MEAN CPU, RAM ETC. NOT TALKING ABOUT SPACE OR BANDWIDTH AS THAT IS OBVIOUSLY LESS Last edited by SDP; 02-02-2008 at 06:05 AM. |

No, not at all.
In fact, reseller accounts mostly have fewer resources than regular shared accounts, although they have the ability to create accounts with separate cPanels. Long before HG dumped the semi-dedis, the forum had several threads about the desirability of having semi-dedicated reseller accounts, because it was either/or (i.e., no reseller accounts on semi-dedis).

so the ONLY difference a resller account has (aside from less space/bandwidth than a shared hosting account) is the ability to make separate accounts within itself? It doesn't overall have ANY more resources?? So Like a vbulletin could only have like 1 open connection each if a reseller account was partitioned into 25 separate accounts??? When asked if a reseller account has more resources I keep seeing people say no, but that wouldn't make any sense then. No resller could ever operate a business by having their ENTIRE account have the same amount of resources as one shared account straight from HG has. Can anyone actually explain this?? |

By the way when I say resources I mean like RAM, CPU etc. not disk space or bandwidth.

If you have access to the full forums you will find all this discussed repeatedly. The reseller account does not share the 25 connection limit. each account you create does from what I have read fere, but actually it should be per mysql user.
As for competing, you can't compete with HG and other large hosts with resources!! You must find something you can offer that they do not or do it better. Works for many other hosts and worked for HG before Brent decided to go after the masses
