Hi,
I've set up a redirect to an ad-tracker. The redirect "to" is as follows: http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/trac...i?ad-name-here The problem is that the redirect is putting a trailing "/" on the redirect location, and my tracker isn't working. I can tell this from the error message at the tracker end. In the example above, the ?ad-name-here would be ?ad-name-here/ . I can always just use an HTML redirect, but would rather use the server redirect if possible. I suppose I could also change my cgi to drop it as well. Any ideas on how to drop the "/" from the server redirect? Thanks, vsbweb |

If a HTML redirect would work, why not use it?
[code:1:8d691c8ec9]<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/tracker.cgi?ad-name-here">[/code:1:8d691c8ec9] Also, did you include "http://" before the URL?

Thanks for your reply, both here and re. my installed Perl module question.
I hadn't seen the module list before, but it's on my reseller cpanel too. The redirect seems to be working now. I added a trailing slash to my redirect 'from' location that wasn't there before, to match what I had in my link, and all is well. I was trying to avoid an HTML redirect because I've seen reports that some search engines penalize those, and pages that link to them. I don't know if it's true, but since the server redirect was available my preference was to use it if possible. Thanks again for your help! Best, vsbweb |

Hi Cryssis,
This is probably best for another section of the forum, but just curious why you feel a redirect is cheating (assuming you mean cheating the search engines and/or visitors)? Thanks, vsbweb |

I don't see it as cheating. I'm just saying, if they see redirecting a person as cheating, then no matter what meathod you use, it's still cheating. However, there are certail cercumstances that would be acceptable. Such as you want to confirm the click, or count in some way, then allow them to continue, that would not at all be cheating.
I was mearly pointing out that using the redirection meathod from CPanel is no different the the <meta> tags.
