Right; your MX would be changed to Google, and mail would route through them instead.

OK, in the past I took a different approach:
1. Set the catch-all to :fail: to get rid of spam e-mails, especially those who make up random e-mail addresses on my domains. 2. Set up forwards to redirect the legitimate addresses to whereever they need to go... Since catch-all has been disabled, I cant do this any more and it seems my new domains are getting flooded with spam... Is there anything wrong with my approach? S |

If messages sent to a non-existent address are being delivered you should contact support to make sure the default is set to :fail:. Disabling the catch-all should be the same as setting the default to :fail:.

Let me just repeat what GvilleRick said, with a few enhancements for clarification:

I got to wondering why I was receiving no mail anymore from my 20 domains. Then I found cpanel had been completely changed. Then I found there was no way to set a mail forwarder anymore. All this talk about spam is new to me because I never received spam using email forwarding. And it only took 5 seconds to set an email to forward to. And the term "catchall" was never used in the old cpanel, so I've had to catch up to figure out different people's wording on if it's what I was using or not. When hostgator changed cpanel, I lost all my email forwarding, which killed my business. Nope, no notification on such a crucial thing. I just now became aware of it. Submitted a ticket and was given a link to a tutorial and of course, the "catchall" is disabled, so the tutorial was worthless. The support person didn't simply ask if I wanted "catchall" reactivated. Now I know, but just think of all the customers who emailed me and never got a reply or their mail bounced. And until I get another reply to my newest ticket, no contact with my customers is impossible. Something's really wrong here.

Hi,
I understand the reasoning behind this move, but I have a bunch (around 50+ email addresses) that I use. Previously, I "assigned" one address to each important person or website so that I can use mail filter rules to sort those emails. I have copies of email in my Thunderbird and Gmail. Does anyone know a way I can move those 'white list' addresses to my forwards so those emails continue to come through? Is there an API or some way (upload .csv file, address book file, etc) that I can use to achieve this? |
