Smile Re-selling

Greetings,

I just found you guys via Google. I must say what you offer to re-sellers is very impressive-with WHM Auto Pilot even, not to mention the size of the packages.

The space alloted with a package, say the Aluminum 5000mb, is that total for the 'main' re-seller account, along with what can be re-sold, or are they seperate amounts for each?

phpBB forums are known to be targets of 'hackers' and exploited. What is your policy as far as making sure customers (including my re-sold customers), keep their phpBB updated to the latest version?

Can tech staff move WHM re-seller accounts, from my existing host, who uses WHM?

Lastly, if I sign up with just a regular hosting account, and move one of my 're-sold' accounts here, to use to 'kick the tires', will tech staff be able to move it into my re-seller account, once I move it here?

Thanks!, Tom

If I'm correct The Planet's datacenter controls most of the exploits in phpBB. Also the amount you are given includes your clients accounts, every cPanel you make takes a certain amount of BW, Space, Etc. from your account. And yes, HostGator takes upto 20 accounts off your old host and installs them here. And I don't understand your last question. You want them to buy from hostgator and then you want hostgator to move the account onto your reseller?

Hi there Tomowa.

The space allocated is the 5000mb for all accounts, so if you have 5 accounts with 1000. That would take all of the space.

We are fine with anyone using PHPBB forums, in fact we have them available in our fantastico deluxe scripts. We have no policy on "making" people update though, we would sure like people to do that though since they are risking there site when they do not. It would impossible for us to check on all of our thousands of clients and there thousands of clients phpbb to make sure they are updated.

We will move up to 20 sites free of charge, just fill out the form after you get your signup information. www.hostgator.com/ticket/

And last, if you start with a shared plan first you are welcome to have it transfered to your reseller account.

Hope that answers your questions.

Edit: Looks like I was beaten to it by Machinedog.

Thanks guys for the info Since I certainly am not one for explaining myself clearly I admit....Some re-seller hosts offer say '500mb' for the re-seller's domain, then say '1000mb' to divy up for re-sell, but you could not re-sell any of the 'main' 500mb. If I am understanding correct, the 5000mb Aluminum plan, the 5000 is divided up between the re-sellers space, and the space he sells as he see's fit, ie, such as, use 50mb for re-sellers domain, which leaves 4950mb to re-sell.
Can a re-seller 'over sell, on paper' his packages, ie, sell packages that may total 7000mb, knowing that most people never use the space they think they need. Yet if total usage ever did go above the 5000mb alloted, WHM would shut things off till I the re-seller either removed files, or purchased more space.

As for my last question, which now I see was confusing...the 're-sold' account I refer to, is just another domain I tend to, so I'm my own customer. I do hosting for my family members and a couple friends and my towns Chamber of Commerce. I would never host for someone I didn't know, I'll leave that to you folks!

The question about the phpbb, I certainly understand and agree that they need to be kept up to date. The issue with this I have with my current host, is they mass emailed everybody that WHM reported has or ever had installed phpbb, a very terse letter about upgrading (the did give plenty of time to do it in), or the phpbb would be removed.
It's just the fact they went straight to my customers, without even giving the re-seller the opertunity to notify his customers, and destroyed the 'transparacy' of who my customer is dealing with. All the time meanwhile making sure to the re-sellers that they understand "you are responsible for your customers, not us." <sigh>

Thanks again, Tom

I am not sure about overselling as I am new to HG myself (just signed up today after doing hours of research on about 10 different companies).

I just wanted to state "my 2 cents worth" and let you know that I have been with some HORRIBLE hosts and never had one email my clients directly (although that is not saying that they would not).
When using WHM and you set up a new CPanel account, use your primary service email as the contact email. This will avoid "accidents" as well.

I am curious to know if over-selling is an issue. A question I took for granted because I have never had an issue with it in the past.

Your main site comes out of the space you have, such as the 5000mb.

We would never contact any of your customers, and the host that did that was definitely wrong in doing that. At least they could have been anonymous if it was an emergency. (Which doesnt sound like it) We would never do anything like that.

Hi guys, and as spazz says, thanks for the link quietFinn. It explains alot.
Jay, thanks for that info, also, I signed up for a shared hosting account last night www.odessachamber.net, and received a confirmation email at 7:52pm Pacific Time. I signed up for payment via PayPal, and it said my first payment would be 9/23/05. Are offering the first month free? If not, when I go to PayPal, to make payment to you, whom do I make payment to, and how do I specify what my payment is for. Or is the info still to come, when I receive the account setup email?

Good Day, Tom

There should have been a link to pay via paypal right after you signed up. But if you didn't pay then, you can pay at www.hostgator.com/billing/ with your email and main password to login. You can then pull up an invoice and pay via paypal. The 23rd would be the date of your second payment I believe.
