Default RAM Disk

Hello,

Since I use to have about 1.5GB of free memory in my VPS, is it possible to configure any kind of RAM disk to cache web pages?

I guess this would reduce disk access and CPU load.

Thanks.

Hello,

Have you thought about php caching? This would allow your php scripts to be cached into static html for quick and cpu friendly display. Generally this would be the first step in using left over memory to increase performance of the server as a whole.

There are a number of different options for this, the easiest of which would be eAccelerator which we can install for you for free. APC and xCache are a few other options which do have an install fee. Note that if you'd like to do this we will need to set up PHP to run as fcgi or DSO, however we're more than happy to take care of this for you as well.

I think this might be what you're looking for. If interested, go ahead and make a ticket with support at hostgator dot com and we can get it taken care of for you!

Hello,

Thanks for your answer.

I'm using some useful cache systems now, but my question is about what to do with about 1.5GB free RAM that is not used in the VPS.

Maybe something like mounting a RAM disk and load some static html files, images or even mysql database files into memory.

Anyone got working something like this?

Thanks.

Let it be free. If you use it then sooner or later your VPS runs out of memory!

The amount of memory a web server uses is not static, more traffic means more memory usage.
