Default Rails & Performance

We need FCGI or SCGI.

CGI is too slow!

in this forum, few had asked for fastcgi as well.
not think hostgator provide that in shared hosting.
any how, email support to rise the request, see what they can do.

...and the rails book recommends Mongrel. I just emailed support asking if Mongrel was permitted (since it requires persistent processes). The gem is already installed. Their response was "The Mongrel service is not allowed to be ran on our servers as it is a background process."

If so... why install it?

What's wierd is that they show as #1 on this review site:
http://www.rubyonrailswebhost.com/ tied for first place with Site5, who *do* support FastCGI. Well, Site5 have free setup and roughly the same prices, so it'll be easy to switch if Hostgator don't get serious about Rails.
