I currently am paying $17.99 a month for a reseller plan. It's an OK plan, but I'd like to cut down on my expenses. A friend told me about Hostgator's $9.99 a month plan and I'm very interested in it. However, I have a few questions first.
1. I'm hosting around 5-10 different web sites presently. I see that hostgator offers unlimited domain name hosting. How does that work in regards to the cPanel? Do I have just one cPanel account to log into for all the web sites or do I have a cPanel for each web site? Are all the databases located on the same server? 2. A few of the sites I have run SMF and WordpressMU. Do these both work fine on Hostgator? 3. What kind of downtime does Hostgator have? My present web host has at least a half hour of downtime a week, sometimes more. Can I expect more or less downtime with Hostgator? Thanks |

Also, I run Joomla on another site. Does that work fine with HG as well?

As to (1) you would use add-on domains for the additional sites and all would be under a single cPanel. The additional domains would be in subfolders off of your public_html folder and would be accessed in the browser using the individual domains.
(2) SMF should work fine. I am not sure about WordPressMU so someone else may be able to reply on that issue. (3) I have had an account for about a year and seen little downtime, certainly not 30 minutes a week. |

You are referring to the $9.99 per month non-reseller/shared plan.
1) All domains are in one cPanel as add on domains. All databases are on the same shared server. 2) Not sure. 3) I have had good uptime experiences with HostGator. They offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee per month for the Baby Plan. I encourage your to join HostGator and verify all answers to your questions/ ask questions with Live Chat support.

So when I log into the FTP account, I'd be presented with a folder for each site? Then within each site folder, I'd find the root directory for that site and so on? Is this thinking correct?

Yep, exactly. The folder for each site is the root directory for that site.
