Default Question...

Ok, I am currently a HostGator customer hosting one site, but am considering a reseller account, but here is my problem, I want to use this to get back into the hosting biz but I can't see that happening because it appears that HostGator itself is completely blocked on gov't networks, and being someone whose full time gig won't allow me to log into my account in an emergency to fix something if I need to what is one to do, its obvious that this won't work for me if that is the case, anyone else notice this.

I do remote desktop also on my side or use the cPanel proxy. I also offer my client the proxy to cPanel and webmail by default because firewall rules are strick for a lot of my customers.

Things are a bit loose here, I have requested forwarding to cPanel ports from the administrator, for my laptop.

To be honest, you don't say what "total blocked" means. Do you mean cPanel access or you can't access any IPs at Hostgator.com or thePlanet is blocked?

Without that answer, no one can help you, but if its just hostgator that is blocked and not cpanel, I'd find a different hosting company. No need to put up with the hassle, there are plenty of other good companies.

If it is cPanel, then use the work around because all hosting companies that use cPanel will have the same problem.

It appears to be HostGator and others, because I host a site already with HG, and I cannot reach it either. And at one point when attempting to get to HG from my desktop well it said it was blocked because of malicious content, now of course I found this odd because why would anyone block the whole hosting company. I know its not the Planet as a whole that is blocked because I have had a server with The Planet that I was able to access clean from there without doing anything. It does appear that I will have to likely move onto an alternative at least at this point.

Many organizations install web blocking software on their intranet servers and initially block everything. Then as requests for access to work-related web sites are made, the network administrator whitelists that domain for that one employee (or network group the employee belongs to.) I am surmizing that this is happening to you, and if it is, moving to "another alternative" won't solve your problem - the site will still be blocked.

Ask your admin at work if this is happening, and if it is, find out the procedure to get the site unblocked for you.
