In your shared hosting plans it lists that forums are offered. Though in your cpanel demo I don't see anything that would install a php Forum. Do you offer this feature in cpanel? Did I just miss it?
Thanks |

The demo doesn't show all the features.
Actually we offer phpBB2, Invisionboard and YaBBSE (through Fantastico). Let us know if you have any further questions. Stef. |

I currently have a phpBB forum set up through my cpanel with my webhost. If I transfer my site to you, would my database and all forum info, posts, etc be transferred as well?

Yes, you can transfer your database and all forum data.
There are some things you have to keep in mind (like a different database prefix) that maybe will need to be changed after transferring. You can check out this tutorial on moving your site from another host. Stef. |

That tutorial was helpful. I do have a home backup of my site, though it's a few weeks old and not current. I do not have a backup of my database and alias/filters. Though I cannot login to my cpanel to get them with my current host- that's one of the reasons I am moving from them because they messed up and are not renewing their cpanel licenses.
Is there a way for HostGator to transfer my entire site and all the above? FTP wouldn't transfer my emails, databases, etc I don't think. I thought that on this site somewhere it says you can transfer my site and all the above, I then confirmed that with a rep at sales@hostgator.com |

If you are unable to retrieve a backup of your database via CPanel, we will also be unable to retrieve a backup of your database via CPanel. Does your current host offer shell/telnet access?

Hmm... I just looked at the move site tutorial and have to tell you that the instructions in it will NOT work. the reason is that "download home backup" does NOT download a home backup - it downloads an entire system backup. Attempting to restore it causes all kinds of problems and files being "misplaced". You need to download the backup, un-tar it on your home pc, tar up public_html and everything under that. THAT will be the file you need to use to restore.
An added comment - if you are backing up any MySQL databases be sure that you have disabled user access to them, (either through CHMOD'ing the application directory to 400 or via a shut off inside the application if it is available) Otherwise you may well end up with corrupted databases that do not restore. Peace Wolf |

AlphaWolf,
How do I "un-tar" it on my home pc and "tar up public_html and everything under that"? I can CHMOD my database through ftp correct? What directory do I do that to and how? Thanks Anyone else can answer as well... |

I will then do what the tutorial says to do.
