I'm looking at setting up a new Hostgator account. We have a video game related website that's currently hosted with another provider, but their consistently poor customer service mixed with their low server speeds is driving us away, quickly.
Our biggest traffic generator is a weekly podcast. On average, we deal with about 30 - 50GB of traffic each day. We don't offer huge files (nothing over 100MB), but we do have a lot of hits. Because of those numbers, we'd be looking at the "Swamp" hosting plan, mainly because it offers an Unlimited bandwidth limit. However, I know that with a lot of web hosts, their idea of "Unlimited" isn't really an honest idea of unlimited. It's more of a "We'll let you do whatever you want, until we decide we don't want you doing it anymore", and then the account gets disabled. Can someone give me an assurance that our site won't present a problem on the Swamp hosting plan? I emailed Sales about this, but their response didn't really give me the warm fuzzies. |

You get to use ad much bandwidth as you want.
The limitations are on space and resource usage. You will not go over the bandwidth limit but you will go over the memory usage limit first (using over 25% of memory for 90 secs I think). But from the size of your site I think it should probably be on semi-dedicated or dedicated.

How many visitors? Is it a PHP/MySQL site or just HTML?
The semi-dedicated isn't available anymore... Last edited by kmaw; 11-28-2007 at 04:19 PM. |

Yeah am abit worried about the bandwidth myself, this is the first time I ever have brought hosting for my website and I choose the Swamp plan because of the unlimited bandwidth and the 1000 GB space.
On the old host we would roughy hit 30-50 GB bandwidth per month by downloads, am dreading getting any emails on asking us to upgrade to something else because I won't be able to afford it. Last edited by IronWarrior; 11-28-2007 at 10:59 PM. |
