Saw the comment in the TOS about not allowing anything about IRC. Didn't figure it was against the TOS but decided to ask anyways about the two scripts.
Live Chat said both scripts were against the TOS. But while looking around the forums saw this post. http://forums.hostgator.com/showpost...17&postcount=4 So is http://www.pjirc.com/main.php and http://cgiirc.org/ against the TOS or not? |

The TOS says no IRC. Live Chat said the two IRC scripts you asked about were against the TOS. Perhaps an email enquiry to support or abuse could explain it (we're just the users here--a wild guess is that 'against the TOS' means you can't do it). Last edited by gwyneth; 07-29-2007 at 04:09 AM. |

Ok clearly you didn't read anything I wrote in my first post and of course didn't bother reading anything in the links I posted. Didn't think I would have to spell it out for people but I guess I am. The Online Chat help says it can't be run but this ticket that was replied to says it is ok to run. Meaning the online Chat contradicts what the support ticket says. Quote:
So now after READING the material presented, what am I supposed to believe? |

Oh yes, pjirc is a Java applet, so probably it is allowed then. Anyway, if you want to get official answers this is not necessarily the right place to ask, you should open a support ticket instead. This is a peer support forum and mostly you get answers from other customers. HG support staff do answer here also sometimes, but you can't count on that.

You could have phrased your inquiry here more clearly, explaining that your HG link was a support ticket that seems to OK one of the scripts you are considering. That said, this forum is where users share information, as quietFinn said, and the post that started this thread sounded like you were looking for official approval or a loophole. Sorry to sound grouchy. Good luck. |

Now- addressing your question: Regardless of what support said, this is the Terms of Service. Here is a clause under the “User may not:” section about IRC: http://www.hostgator.com/tos.shtml "d) Run any software that interfaces with an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network." You should request written clarification in the legal documents and/or Terms of Service to prevent service disruption due to miscommunication in the future.
