One of the main reasons I chose hostgator was because it offered Python.
I was disappointed to find out that the server has python 2.4.3 installed, which is quite an outdated version (2005?). Python 3 has been out for quite a while now (already up to 3.1.1) and offers a lot of improvements and is much easier to work with. Whenever I ask about it (either in chat or e-mail support) I get answers like "we don't have plans either to provide it or not to provide it". Well why don't you at least consider it? |

We are awaiting cPanel to integrate their backend applications to use Python 3 fully. At this point Mailman and other backend cPanel scripts run with Python 2.4.x and we have not yet received any official reports that it works properly in Python 3 yet. Once cPanel has shown that their applications will work properly with Python 3 we should be able to get this installed as the default version of Python.

I am selecting a list of date strings from a mysql database of the format "d%m%y:%H:%M" but there is some a small minority of strings coming through that are of a different form. What I want to do is check if the string is of the form "d%m%y:%H:%M" and if it is then execute a few commands but if it isnt of that form then set the string as null.
So, if string == date_format: execute else: string = NULL Force Factor |

![]() Edit: Note that common modules such as Django, flup, and mysqldb are not compatible with Python 3. I recommend that you use Python 2.4 or Python 2.6 for web use.

Also, python 2.6.5 is available. Please use the following path for the interpreter.
/usr/local/bin/python26 |

It's highly unlikely- cPanel's philosophy is to not change anything that diverges from CentOS's default repos. CentOS 6 (currently in development, slated for release by maybe the end of this year) gets its core packages from upstream (RHEL 6- currently in beta) which if I am correct, is using Python 2.6. So at the earliest, we will see cPanel supporting Python 3.0 in CentOS 7/RHEL 7 (maybe 2013-ish at the earliest). This isn't a guarantee, and it could be as late as CentOS 8 or 9 before we ever see Python 3.0 incorporated into mainstream, which means the second half of this decade for cPanel support.
