I haven't read any such news here, but for an official answer I suggest you email sales at hostgator dot com.

You can always order a dedicated server.

We wouldn't be able to guarantee 99.9% uptime if everyone on shared servers were running double the processes.

One alternative would be to order an Unmanaged dedicated server for $75. They are currently in stock and can be ordered from: https://secure.hostgator.com/~billin...derwiz.php?v=3

The specs for the unmanaged servers are:
Celeron (or better) processor
80GB Hard drive
1GB of ram

The unmanaged servers do not come with support outside of reboots and hardware failure.

You get hardware and internet connection. Software that runs on your server depends on you. That means you have to install desired software, take care of security patches and updates, monitor uptime, deal with service outages, analyze logs, configure firewall, etc etc...

I wonder if this unmanaged server comes with cPanel/WHM or without? If without, managing it might become a challenge if you ain't into CentOS Although having Webmin might help a lot to understand how Linux works and is managed.

The unmanaged server is dedicated so you are the only client on the server. You have access to root on the server both in WHM and in SSH. A managed server means that HG handles all of the day to day management such as upgrading software, monitoring the server, correcting issues that arrive, etc. An unmanaged server means that you would be responsible for these types of tasks. It also means you can set up the system as you want so you can change the process limits, email limits, and much more.

I would like to see more details on what is supported spelled out as well. I have found that HG support will handle tasks that we cannot handle such as adding RDNS and adding Fantastico (basically anything that requires action by the datacenter.)

The forum is an invaluable source of support for unmanaged dedicated users. Many folks here are willing to help with typical (and not so typical) problems. I also find that the cPanel forum is a good source of support. There is a learning curve but if you are willing to work at it you will never want to go back after getting a dedicated server.

It comes with cPanel and WHM. Many here also install the configserver.com services to help manage the server.
