Try this for a response ( apart from the fact that the server stats clearly showed NO overloading whatever at the time of the problems that have been consistent for 2.5 weeks.) Quote:
Well , I for one am taking down all affiliate links and banners as of now, I could not recommend this to anyone, and will be actively seeking hosting in the UK. |

After two weeks of reporting this problem, and about 20 emails on my ticket, and having sent about 12 screenshots of test results from internetsupervision, I still can't get support to recognize that there's a huge problem and that sites on this server are very regularly not loading at all.
The latest response I've had (from level 3 support) was "this may be local to your user account" - which is obviously crap. He suggested that my site might not be loading because TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE USING IT! Yeah, right. So many people are using it that I can rarely access it myself. I wish! In fact my visitor numbers have plummeted to near zero. I've only just arrived here at Hostgator, and it looks like I'm going to have to move again. |

It's about 50% of the time that's the problem. The other 50% of the time is fine!
Another thing I've noticed is that during the bad 50% of the time, and if by some freak chance I am able to bring up Cpanel, it does not report a high server load. I'm wondering whether there might be some process that is creating a lot of disk activity, but low cpu usage, which is causing time-outs. Last edited by kbs; 04-27-2008 at 10:25 PM. |

This would fit with what you just stated. Hope it can get sorted for you.

I've just been informed that a stack of IPs sending malicious traffic to the server have been blocked, so we'll see how that goes.

They should have done that last week. I cant believe they did not tell me that. We are on the same server but they tell you and not me. I am hopefully moving to another hosting company today. My organization just got feed up.

I moved to https://www.vertexhost.com/ . They are owned by the same people that run fusionbb. Some how my welcome email got lost and the cofounder called me. Also they spent all last night at no additional charge on moving my site. I will say this again my other account has been great and will stay there but this decision was made by my organization. I just wish they could have seen how great hostgator was and why I recommend them. I wish you luck kbs with this server. It seems like its got some demons.

Sites from this server are not accessible again.

At one point I considered moving some sites off the reseller account to one of the shared ones. And the entire time, the sites would die every morning to the point I put them back with the reseller account.
My experience between the two types of accounts have been completely opposite. The reseller one has been great for four years without a single major issue. The month and half I had the shared was 45 days of torture and if I went with the shared first, I'd have never stuck with HG. |

In my opinion, you should contact support and have them move you to another server. If its that big of a problem, I highly doubt HG would have a problem doing this for you. Of course, as a disclaimer, you should understand that you are still going to be in a shared environment and your new "neighbors" might be just as bad or worse than what you are experiencing now.
If my server was doing this, I would definitely roll the dice and move. Sounds like it cant get much worse. I really hope you all get this worked out......knocking on wood that I wont have to experience what you all are. |

After the "support" responses on this problem (mine was on gator 326) and seeing others with the same issues and getting nowhere I have moved to a UK host.

Kbs - I can only echo your heartache, annoyance and frustration regarding the situation.
I am actually reselling hosting under a reseller account, yet my server (yenko.websitewelcome.com) is doing the exact same thing. I have been going round and round with support for quite awhile... a month or two... same issue... they tell me to report it to livehelp, to have the problem investigated immediately, the livehelp operators tell me about the protocol, that I need to submit a support ticket, and are generally unhelpful. Is it really that we are under DDoS attacks? or has hostgator oversold all of their servers? |

and it is awful funny that HOSTGATOR's site never goes down.

Well, when the support staff tell me they are blocking the offending IPs, the server immediately starts responding again. So, assuming the support staff are really blocking the IPs, this would appear to be the problem.
For some reason the monitoring that Hostgator does is unable to detect these attacks, which makes it difficult to convince them that there is a problem. I now have a note attached to my ticket which makes the process a bit faster every time I contact live support. |

my server (816) has been doing quite well for a month. This morning is was completely down. I checked the network status forum and there was nothing posted. So I just contacted live chat who say the server is "under load" and they knew about it. so why couldn't that be posted in network status? Or am I missing the point? Basically I've wasted an hour to get an answer that leaves me no clearer as to what is going on. This is on the day when I'm moving my 4 other web sites and will cancel the other web host account. It all makes me have second thoughts.
BTW I would start a new thread but I seem to be prohibited from doing so. After clicking on 'new thread' I got this ... BlueIguana, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. |

You can't start a thread in this forum. Try posting in the appropriate forum which is shared, reseller or dedicated depending on your account type.
