Hi, I'm using your web based file manager in lieu of FTP, and randomly a directory I'm working with has a bunch of files I didn't create, and every time I try to change the permissions on it, they get reset back to no permission for anyone.
Help? |

What folder is it doing this to, just any folder, or only a specific folder?

Its doing it specifically to /twiki/data which is in my public-html directory.
EDIT: I'm trying to set up a wiki, obviously, and having tons of problems. So if you have any general advice on doing so, please send it my way :? |

Ok, now the data folder has gone back to what it should be? Thats very bizzare....
But I'm also wondering how I can make twiki/bin/ a cgi-bin folder so that it can run scripts? Do the scripts I have in there need a certain extention, like .cgi or .pl?? Thanks! Ryan |

You don't need to make a specific directory for CGI script. Any directory can have them running out of it. Your CGI script will need a specific extension name. .CGI .PL are the two you should be using. If you configure Apache a little differently you can add more extensions. But those two should be all you will ever need.
The above was aauming when you said scripts you ment CGI scripts... And about the directoy going back to what it should be: It is possible that you still had everything in your cache and it hadn't refreshed yet. I've never actually used the program, I stick to FTP software.

I have a similar problem.
In several deep sub-directories within my public_html directory I keep finding directories named "\". When I double click on them in my FTP Client they link back to my root directory. They also appear in cPanel's file manager. The problem these strange directories cause is very annoying. When trying to download my site via FTP, my client tries to download these directories as well... this causes it to get stuck in an endless loop, downloading the entire contents of my root directory over and over. I'm not able to remove them myself through either FTP or cPanel since they appear to have chmod set to 555 in cpanel, though when I try to change the permissions it shows them as not having any. I contacted tech over IM (since support said to) and they were very unhelpful. The agent I was talking to was either not understanding my problem or just not reading what I was typing. He didn't seem to think it was a problem at all and expected me to download my 300+ file site one file at a time. He was insisting that we (or a script we were running) had created these directories and something about them being linked to our forum.... We don't even have a forum! :? I tried explaining again, but the agent didn't seem interested and just kept repeating himself. After about 10 minutes of going round in circles the agent proceeded to block me on MSNM. I find this extremely annoying and not very good customer service at all. I know that he blocked me since my business partner was logged onto MSN at the same time, just accross the room from me and his MSN still showed them as being online..... See the screenshots below. Mine is on the left... my business partner's is on the right. ![]() Perhaps these agents should be made aware that we are not on contract and have money back guarantees should we be unhappy with the service. I must stress at this point that other than this incident my experience with HG so far has been very good.... it would be a shame to let one incident spoil everything. I'd like to know
