Private SSL Question

Hope I've placed this in the correct spot..
I've been a HG baby customer for almost a month. Decided to take my biz site up a level and take credit card payments out side of paypal. Will be using osCommerce for my shopping cart. So far I have upgraded to the HG swamp plan and also gotten a dedicated ip.

Now I just need to put in the request for purchase of the private ssl. My question is what do I type in for the hostname? Would I use mydomain.com or www.mydomain.com?

My plan is to install the shopping cart to a folder under my root public_html named shop. So to link to my shop from my main site page the link would look like "mydomain.com/shop/whateverpage"

I don't want to make a mistake or be a pain to the support team but I'm totally lost on what to put in for hostname. I've googled until my eyes hurt on this topic. Figured since I'm going to link to the shopping cart from my main index page it wouldn't matter if they typed the www or not in their browsers since the full link to the shop will be defined by me and will match the ssl hostname. Am I correct in thinking this or just completely lost?

Doesn't really matter, when you setup https in osCommerce it asks which one it is, if I'm correct.
