HostGator,
I wrote in this thread a long while back. I never signed up with you beacuse you didn't make a reasonable effort to figure out how to deal with the situation. You should not have to contact eNom to get this fixed. I refer you once again to what I wrote previously. I told you precisely how to do it. |

Wouldn't changing the websitewelcome.com domain registration to private be a solution to this problem?
**ALSO** I own an Enom account, and I can change the info that appears on the "registration services provided by" whois field to whatever I want with no problems. This is how you do it: 1. Login to your enom account 2. Click on "my enom" (left side pane) 3. Click on "my info" (below my enom) 4. What you need to change is the info in "Organization Name", "Website URL", and "Email Address (WhoIs)". These are the 3 fields that populate what we see on the whois under "registration services provided by" You should probably change that to "Website Welcome", "www.websitewelcome.com", and "noemail@websitewelcome.com". or something of the like. Hopefully with this info, we as resellers can take this worry out of our heads and start offering true anonymous hosting from you guys. |

ifxnet, you are so right!
I'm not certain if a private registration would remove the "registration services provided by" thing. This is why I suggested in my previous posts that you create a reseller sub account under your main one, and push the domains you need to cloak into it. In the new reseller sub account you can make the changes like ifxnet is suggesting. Yet your main account can still have the proper information like "registration services provided by" etc. for the domains you are reselling to your customers. In the new reseller sub account you can basically put anything, as long as your address is correct and the rest is not a flat-out lie. I would do something like this: -Company Name: something such as Domain Services -Website URL: leave it blank, it's not a required field -Email Address: use some generic free email account like domains48563@yahoo.com or create a similar-sounding forwarder that has nothing traceable back to HostGator. -First Name: DNS -Last Name: Admin -Title: Admin AND, whatever nameservers the domains you are trying to cloak resolve to should also be cloaked in the same manner, unless they are just parked at eNom. Then for the address and phone, just put the accurate information. That'll keep ICANN happy if they ever looked into it, which they never will. If a client of mine were to investigate who is at the address, or call the listed phone number, they are smart enough not to be using me for their hosting anyway. Other hosting companies catering to resellers cloak their domains in this manner all the time. Also, please see my previous posts in this thread. I have spelled it all out for you and thanks to ifxnet for making it even more clear. Just follow our advice. It's soooo easy. |

Excellent idea roadie. I had not even thought about creating a subreseller account, that's even better.
That's probably the best thing to do. 1. Create subreseller account. 2. Push websitewelcome.com to that subreseller acount. If you create a subreseller account you can even email Enom so they can transfer money from the main account to the subreseller account (probably $10) so you dont have to deposit $100 on that subreseller account to start. 3. Do what I or roadie suggested on our previous posts, change the company info to whatever with a good email address and that's it! 4. Done, we all celebrate

I believe Brent was having concerns about mass updating the dns. Last thing in the world we want are thousands of inaccessible sites. I'll find out what he was waiting on and will let you know.

This has been corrected. If you do a WHOIS lookup on websitewelcome.com, you will no longer find any info pointing to hostgator.com
You will still get Brent's name as registered owner, but since the only way around that is to put in a false name, it won't be changed. Hopefully this is acceptable for you all.

Hi, I am also considering a reseller account. Please excuse my ignorance here, never tried a reseller account before, but is the websitewelcome issue only if you are registering domains through HG, or is it specific to the 5 dedicated IP addresses that we are given? Thanks.

Ooops. I think I must have been thinking of another hosts plan. I just looked at the resellers page and don't see any mention of dedicated IPs. Do you not offer this? I know several others I have seen do, and provide 3-5 dedicated addresses for things like FTP, SSL, etc. Thanks.

The 5 IP's come with the dedicated plans, but you may purchase a static IP address for your reseller account for an additional $2 per month.

Thanks for the info. So that means if I get the $24.95 plan I can get a dedicated IP for the site and my cost would be $26.95/mo. and I would not have the ip issue resolving to wesitewelcome right?
Since I am new to this concept please bear with me here. If I have testdomain.com as my main business site, and testdomain.net as my domain and hosting site and use ns1.testdomain.net, etc. for the nameservers for all sites (including my main testdomain.com), would I need just one dedicated IP for testdomain.net or am I looking at this wrong. Thanks. David |

Oh, OK. I guess what I am ultimately trying to do is make sure that none of the fields on whois point to HG. Mainly the IP address and IP location, since I know my name servers would be listed. I'm not really worried about it showing the planet, might actually be a good selling point (although I know there is a way to chage that as well, just not sure how).
So if my ns1.testdomain.net and ns2.testdomain.net were pointed to dedicated IP's then the ip location would resolve back to me right? One last thing, your plans say they provide a shared ssl cert. Is that optional (on/off) so that I could have something like below listed no valid SSL on this host, or would it say something like hostgator.com? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a handle on my level of anonymity. Thanks again... Your dedicated IP would resolve back to The Planet. As for the shared ssl question, I will have to check that out for you and reply back soon.

Ok. We made one final change so now anyone who performs a WHOIS lookup on websitewelcome.com or its nameservers will be shown masked details, so Brent Oxley will not be visible.
Hopefully this level of anonymity should make everyone happy.
