Hello Gator folks,
First of all, I have to tell you guys are doing an outstanding job here! I've been hosting with Hostgator (BabyCroc) for years and I am extremely please with your service. Congratulations and from a customer's point of view - KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB! ![]() Now, to my problem... I'm having big hassles with another web host where they recently introduce a CPU Throttle system to my account. According to their supports, my account CPU usage will be throttled every time when I hit 40 CPU seconds in 3 minute window and my site is throttled about 30 minutes daily! My questions are: - Do Hostgator impose the same policy with shared hosting plan? - If so, how much CPU seconds is allowed? - And, if I'm going with VPS - does the same policy applies? Seeing the site is just a small WordPress blog with only hundreds of uniques daily, I don't see the needs to go VPS. But perhaps I am wrong... and I wish to know your point of view regarding this issue. Million thanks for any help and guidance. Hostgator Rocks! Rgds, GatorJerry |

Comparisons are difficult. I have vB forum, maybe 50 people online and a few hundred posts a day, we are usually less than 1% for both cpu & memory use. A couple of times some internet search engines hit us quite hard and we capped out the number of sql connections.
It works fine for us. |

This is a very hard thing to gauge (i.e. whether you will have an issue on our servers or not). The 25% CPU Limit is just a number we have in the ToS for fine print, our servers have such fast hardware nowadays that we really only will disable a script or database if it's *absolutely* necessary and is causing a problem for other customers.
The one issue you *may* or may not run into is hitting the 25 process limit but only if you have an inefficient WordPress plugin or heavy heavy viewership. The only real way to test this is to move the domain over and give it a full load test, but that may or may not be practical for you. Do you have WP Supercache enabled at the previous host? This solves 99% of WordPress problems that aren't related to other plugins or excessive amounts of uniques per day.
