Default Pre-Sales Questions

Hallo Everybody,

After hearing so many good things about Hostgator, I have decided to give the
service a try. Very first I want to clarify few simple things which is relevant for my requirement.

I am preparing to launch a commercial project and looking for reliable & trustworthy hosting plan for me. I think shared Hosting Plan “Swamp” is the right one for me to begin. My Questions

How stable and secure the server performances? Supports any of the major security protocols, like SSL, that encrypt and decrypt messages to protect them against third party tampering.

If it’s possible to login & Transfer data via SSH?
If it’s Possible to add extra modules like a Zend or ioncube ?
Do you offer any kind of a Backup services?

At last, I don’t want to transfer my domain to HG (Little bit confusing with .de domains). Totally I have 04 domains at the moment. How can I host all those domains with in one shared account. I mean technically. ( I do get one shared IP and how can I use that for 04 domains).

I think this is enough for beginning. have a good time everybody.

see you later Hostgator!!!

HG servers are phpsuexec which helps with being secure.

SSL is available as a shared certificate or you can pay for a dedicated IP and SSL. You will however be limited to one on the swamp plan.

SSH is available, but you will need to request access from support.

For definitive answers you should contact sales at hostgator.com. This is a peer support forum and although staff does check in from time to time it is quicker to contact them directly.

Shared hosting has drawbacks built in but HG accounts are about as stable as you will get with shared hosting. You can purchase an SSL certificate and have it installed on a shared account. You can request SSH access so that you can transfer files using SFTP. Zend and ioncube are installed by default, I believe, but you should check with support to find out for sure. You can use other domains as addon domains. If you want more control and want the domains separate then it would be best to get a reseller account. That way each can have their own cpanel. HG does backups but you should also back up files regularly.

Personally I would suggest at least having a plan to move towards a dedicated server as soon as possible for a commercial project. You have much more control and don't have to worry about other domains on the server causing problems.

Many shared servers have zend and ioncube installed. If not, email support@hostgator.com once you're setup and those can be installed without problems when requested typcially.

It's best to keep your domains seperate from your host anyways.

You need to signup for the Baby of Swamp plans and you can use the Add-on domain feature of cpanel to host the others.

Remember that you'll only be able to install an SSL certificate on one domain if they're all in the same swamp account (because SSLs need their own IPs, and add-ons can't get their own IPs).

Besides the fact that I got tired of people asking me who they should host with (now I say "me") the ability to have multiple separate accounts is one of the main reasons I went with a reseller account.
