Default Potential New client

G'day I am Darren from Gamers Kingdom.

We are currently hosted with edatarack.com but due to a lack of service and little help we are in the market for a new host.

After seeing your name mentioned on vbulletin.org and reading your plans packaging, we have decided on the baby plan, as this should meet our needs.

A couple of quick questions.

I have been running in to the following error with vbulletin alot recently:

Code:
Database error in vBulletin :

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Too many connections /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/gamerskingdom.net/httpdocs/forums/includes/class_core.php on line 278[/FONT]
[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']
[/FONT]

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']Now after contacting vb.com, they have said its a host problem and the hosting providing too little connections to the database.[/FONT]
[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']So how many connections do you provide and are you aware of anyone else suffering the same problem here?[/FONT]

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']I also hope our attachment problem we have is also fixed in our move. Seeing as you run VB here, I hope thats we will run smoothly on this server.[/FONT]

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']I also would like to be placed on a server thats running msql 5 and php 5 as well, thus meeting vb's standard requirements, plus i beleive a number of hacks require this.[/FONT]

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']Also how long would it take to move all files and databases from my current server to the new one? I belive this is a free service which is great.[/FONT]

[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']I cant think of any other questions currently.[/FONT]
[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']Hope to hear from you shortly.[/FONT]
[FONT='Calibri','sans-serif']Darren[/FONT]

I also forgot to ask.

I have been seeing some complaints about emails.

If I send a mass email to our users of the forums, will this be seen as a reason to shut the board down?
I only have a 172 users at present, hopefully double that soon. but i seen a complaint on vb.org about someone sending out a Xmas email and getting the board suspended. My first intention after getting the board up and running is to send an email to all my users advising them of the new address.

it would be more better if you use throttle on your mailing list.
A excellent post by one of admins is at Phplist Throttling :: How To ::

regarding your mysql problem, you can see max_user_connections errors :: Prevention Tips

to have your site transferred from your OLD host, you can request support to do it for you and its included free on new accounts.

i believe vB has email throttling built in, or so i thought i read that here in a post somewhere...

and for the connection limit, like serra said, check your current host. connection limits depend a lot on how the app connects to mysql, if it's persistent connections, you'll have problems... if a page connects multiple times, if connections aren't closing automatically (which with php, they get closed once they aren't needed anymore, so basically right after a query).

i also read on there, that you could have something like 300-400+ concurrent users on your site with the limit at 25.
