title explains it all. I am tired of saying it but once a month I will politely remind hostgator that it is something people want and damn it I need it.

i know there is anot a huge need for this as many would use mysql.
But there are functions in postgres that are not seen until mysql 5.0 so my options are get hostgator to install on what ever server i am on postgres a stable robust server with out support issues. Or install buggy mysql 5. But hostgaotr simply refuses to listen to reasonl. |

I can't even begin to guess how much that would cost them. For what, another database? It just seems that it would be a huge project, with huge costs. To you, I'm sure, it just seems like flipping a switch or something, but I'd hate to be the guy that has to pay for it. |

Consider the following.
They can add it on a per request basis and could have the condition of not supporting it. B. Like most if something goes wrong they have people at ThePlanet to take care of these things, like all the other host who have there servers around the globe in datacenters. C. Hell they cant even answer a simple mysql question, so by your standard they should not offer mysql as they cant support it as they are numbskulls when it comes down to the nuts and bolts. |

No, Knowing Mysql is there job. They should know why mysql is not working instead of scratching there head going I dont know?!?!
Postgres is amazingly stable even though people voice concerns with Postgres and cpanel apparently that has not been a issue for over a year as cpanel fixed there postgres package. If they need Postgres training I am more than happy to packup my back servers and take the drive from the West cost of florida over to Boca, train them all and head back home on my dime. This account is for one of my smaller clients but also one of my favorites. If I did not have to change a a bunch of scripts around everytime I had to change a host then it would not be a big deal and I would go out and find another. But moving over to host gator was one of convience as as there previous host was shutting there doors and my preffered host was not accept new customers until they could get more servers to datacenter.... But it I figure by time I get done complaining they will either get postgres or mysql 5 will be marked as production ready and hopefully get updated here. While I had to disabel some features do to the lack of postgres. I have managed with mysql4 i just not happy with it. |

What Hostgator really should do is activate it for you if you request it (maybe by creating a duplicate for each hosting "plan" that includes Postgres ... I'm not all that familiar with cpanel administration... can it do per-user stuff?). These days, there's no good reason not to support PGSQL unless you're trying to avoid trouble tickets. |

Hostgator installed PostgreSQL 8.1 on my dedicated server, so they have the knowledge

Actually, having it installed on a dedicated server doesn't mean that they are staffed and equipped to answer thousands of questions about it.

I'd like to second the fact that someone here wants postgresql... What is PHP5 w/o postgres... honestly...?
Thanks, Dallas (the still-loyal customer of HostGator) |

Hi,
I need PostgreSQL too. I use it as my main database system! I've been using PostgreSQL since 1998 !! Thank you, GHost |
