I'm actually voting 'yes' for shared hosting as well.. I don't own a reseller account but I do currently own/operate 3 shared accounts on various servers. I'd love to have postgreSQL on these servers but the last time I contacted support about getting anything added to a server I was on they basically shrugged me off and said something which I equated to: "You don't pay enough for us to provide you any services." ie: "You're useless to us"

I'll be keeping active here until we finally get something done for postgres.

Thanks,
Dallas (the still-loyal customer of HostGator)

I know this poll is old but I'd vote for Yes. I'd like to see postgresql too.

While we understand that this is something that clients are wanting, the problem is that cPanel does not integrate with it well at all especially in our shared environment and is also just one more service that must be running at all times. While our servers are incredibly powerful it would be something that could potentially cause higher load and that's never good.

If you really need PostgreSQL I'd recommend upcoming VPS, dedicated, or perhaps we can talk Brent into getting a few special PostgreSQL only boxes.

Thoughts?

Personally, I believe your last idea is the best one:

Contract with your server provider for, and then offer to your customers who need/want it, a number of servers that have PostgreSQL support.

I have no such need at the moment, but if I did and saw that Hostgator offered it..... I'd jump ALL over it.

I'm definalty down for Postgresql on the Reseller plans..
Gives those that have the reseller plans options.. IMO
On the VPS when is the roll-out date, has this been annouced yet?
