Default Possible domain problem....

Hi everyone.

I just transfered my domain over to moniker. Now, when I type in my website address, I get taken to a site that isn't mine. It doesn't look like a domain parking page. I'm really confused. My own site isn't up yet. I'm planning to host it here, and to point my domain name to it. Maybe someone here can tell me something about the webpage my domain is pointing to? the address is www.upandatempublications.com Thanks for any insight anyone can give me.

Kim

It looks like a page the name registrar points it to, when they own the name.....Do you own it, and have access to a control panel to set the name servers as you desire?
A whois http://whois.domaintools.com/upandatempublications.com shows moniker owns it, but the privacy may be masking the fact that you do own it.
When you do get signed up here at HG, they will tell you what to set your nameservers to (at Moniker), so that it will point to the HG server. Here is the page at Moniker that tells you how to do it http://www.moniker.com/help/faq_dns.jsp.

About your other topic started here, just go with the cheaper plan, you can always upgrade if needed.

HTH, Tom

Kim,

It looks like the problem is that you haven't yet updated the nameservers to your HG ones yet. Make sure to do that.

If you don't have hosting services yet anywhere, that's probably what Moniker throws up. Once you get your HG plan, do what Matt says, and then...you can put something up.

Right now, your domain seems to exist only in registration, but with no pages of its own anywhere.

If you don't have anything of your own yet, there's no point in stressing about this.

If you've already signed up for HG, and then set the info at Moniker to point to your HG nameservers, you'd still need to put some files into your HG directory to show anything, but that can be very simple.

Thanks, everyone! You're all the best!

Yes, I do own the domain, which is why seeing that strange page freaked me out! I have control of it over at moniker. By the way, I have found moniker's control panel to be very easy to use. I've heard over and over again how weird or strange it is, but for me it's very simple to understand. That's saying alot since I'm so new to this whole game!

I'm going to sign up at HG tomorrow. I guess I'll get the baby plan for now. If I start getting too much traffic or downloads for that plan, will HG let me know before they pull the plug on my site? As you can tell, I'm extremely optimistic about the success of my website!

It doesn't matter what shared hosting plan you sign up for; if you use too many resources and affect other users on your server, you will get shut down. So, it's nice to be optimistic and I wish you much success but if you do anticipate a huge volume of traffic or a possibility of hogging a shared server's resources, I would recommend you look at dedicated or semi-dedicated plans.

Hi Kim,

I see you have your nameservers set to HG here, so you must be getting close http://www.upandatempublications.com/. After following your story the past few weeks, can't wait to see what your 'programmer' and designer created for you, and what your site is all about

Nick: Yes, I'm very optimistic, but I'm also just starting out. A dedicated server or even a semi dedicated server isn't in my budget and quite honestly, if I put my site on one it would be like a single person moving into a very large mansion. All that space around not being used.

I've got every reason, however, to believe that I'll be getting plenty of traffic soon. In my case, though, it's not really so much about the traffic numbers as it is the quality of the traffic. So, maybe I'll never outgrow the baby plan. That's ok. As long as the money grows, and it will.

Tom: Yes, I signed up yesterday. I got the first month for a penny using a coupon, so I'm not really paying anything for this month even if my site doesn't get done. I'm really skeptical at the moment. The programmer left for a vacation on Saturday. He assured me he has a development team to work on his current projects while he's away, and that he'll be checking his email almost daily. He said my site could easily be done while he's gone....but I have my doubts. I'll be very surprised and happy if it happens, but I know better than to get my hopes up.

The site does look beautiful. The designer did a great job with it visually, I'll give him that.

As for what the site is all about....I think I'll save that for a surprise! Heck, up until a few days ago, it was a surprise for me too, and there are still things I don't know!
