Default Plesk Control Panel

We have been thinking of offering Plesk as a control panel option on our VPS servers. I'm just wondering if any of you would use Plesk of we offered it.

Let me know your opinions.

It would be offered as an alternative to cPanel, so there would be a choice between the two. You would not be able to run both concurrently on the same VPS.

cPanel has a version optimized for VPS's. That would be my preference.

No. Im familiar with cPanel, have used it for years, and like it. Not to mention know how to write plugins for it.
I've used plesk before, and don't really have anything against it, just would stick with what I know and like.

I think having Plesk as an alternative would be a good idea for customers who have used Plesk before. I wouldn't make it a default though

Yeah I'm definitely not against Plesk, it's a great control panel; most of my experience however, lies with cPanel. I used Plesk on Linux, BSD, and Windows when I worked at The Planet but that was years ago and pre-merger.

I would also stick with cPanel.
Did work with Plesk on one occasion but prefer cPanel.

Although I probably won't be able to afford it right away, I will be very excited if you do offer plesk as an alternative. - I actually have a domain name that I am saving for the occasion.

Maybe. I've more experience with cPanel

I'd suggest making it an option when ordering, so the customer doesn't have to ask HG to install one or the other.

Since HG offers cPanel already as default, wouldn't it be a better business decision to stay with that "standard"? This way your support staff and administrators are all dealing with the same familiar interface instead of having to learn and support two different versions. The end result being better support for your clients.

Look at Southwest Airlines as an example. They use one aircraft exclusively, the B737. They don't have to have mechanics, tools, spare parts and training for 10 different aircraft. Having one standard definitely has its advantages, in almost any service industry.

While you have an excellent point, our industry really doesn't allow us to adhere to just one standard. For us to continue to be successful we have to be an agile company that sees demand and meets it with a great offering. It's an ever evolving industry with clients wanting different control panel's and we're here to try and meet the needs and provide the best support we can for anything that we believe is a good product and client will want.

With that being said, we already have a large number of Windows Plesk clients who are very happy with Windows/Plesk dedicated and we are just trying to gauge the demand for Plesk on Linux VPS.

While the two OS' are radically different, Plesk on Linux is not *so* much different than cPanel that a competent administrator cannot learn and support both.

No, not only NO!, but NO!

I've had my run ins with that piece of junk and would rather use a hot poker to the eye.

There is no substitute for WHM/CPanel.

I've tried some of the others when I had to, but once I could get WHM/CPanel licenses they were replaced.

I prefer cPanel but I think offering Plesk is a good idea. Plesk is very easy to use and not that much different than cPanel. Some might just prefer what they know and if they know Plesk it would be nice to offer it to them.

Not sure what the plan would be but offering either or at the time of purchase would be a good idea.... my 2 cents
