Exclamation Please help. Confusing doubt regarding httpd.conf.

Hi,

I was searching for configuration directives for mpm event module on my server. I found the directives for this module (bearing different values) at two files.

1) One sounding like pre_virtual_host_global.conf in apache/includes directory.
2) Other one sounding like httpd-mpm.conf in apache/extra directory.

Please someone can help me understand what is the difference between these two files. Also please someone can tell me which one overrides the other.

Thanks,
Kamalkk

The files in /usr/local/apache/conf/extra directory do nothing, you can remove them or change them and it does not change anything in Apache.

If you want to change Apache's mpm directives, you do it in /usr/local/apache/conf/includes/pre_virtualhost_global.conf, or in WHM-> Service Configuration-> Apache Configuration-> Include Editor-> Pre VirtualHost Include-> All Versions (that will edit the same file) as I explained in your other thread.

In order for the mpm-event configuration to be of any use to you, even if you do get it in the right place, you actually have to be running the Event mpm for Apache. If your server is not already using Event, you'll need to create a ticket with HostGator and have them recompile Apache for you. This is a relatively simple process, but it does take a while, so it's best to plan it for a time your site won't be too busy.

Unless you know exactly what the directives you're adding will do, I strongly recommend against modifying the Apache configuration on your own. If you have a specific goal in mind as the reason for the modification, open a ticket and describe what you want to accomplish. I like to think we're pretty good at Apache configuration.
