Please wait for a HostGator operator to respond.
http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hcp...o/chatinfo.gifWelcome to HostGator Live Chat! You are now chatting with 'Justyn'
Justyn: Welcome to HostGator Live Chat, how may I assist you?
Sam: Hi, are RSS feeds aloud on your servers?
Justyn: Only a dedicated server would be allowed to use rss feeds.
Sam: Ok thanks

That's the most ridiculous TOS rule I've ever seen. Enforcing it would be crazy if they did-- every single person with wordpress?

I think there is a bit of confusion of exactly what an RSS feed is. HG banned the use of several scripts that read in RSS feeds to blogs and websites. That was because they were found to be very CPU intensive.

I'm fairly sure that using RSS feeds or creating RSS feeds is not currently against the TOS....

I highly doubt it as almost everything I was told in chat concerning my pre-sale questions for a dedicated box were all found to be incorrect. I would send a ticket in to sales as there is no mention in the TOS that I can see related to this.

I also had more than one rss feed running on multiple domains on a reseller server.

There are several feed scripts that were banned, but not all.

RSS feeds ARE allowed with our hosting. Justyn is a newer employee with us and was confused about the TOS. We only blocked certain RSS scripts, but most of these scripts since that time have actually been fixed and no longer cause server load and problems. You will not have a problem with RSS feeds and blogs, etc.

This is why customers should address their TOS questions with sales, not chat support.

That is some crummy software if an RSS feed can overwhelm the CPU resources. After all, its just a static XML file that needs to be updated only when you want to publish a new resource.

Some of these scripts were pulling in thousands of RSS feeds to the server, combining them into a single feed, and republishing them.
