Default phpList question

Hi. I see that HostGator offers phpList with fantastico. I'm wondering that if I run my own customer mailing list off my HostGator server, if I have to worry about getting flagged as a spammer? I've never run a mailing list before so I don't know what potential complications are involved. But I've read that running your own list on your server can be a problem.

Are you concerned about the account being disabled from sending out too many emails? Or possible issues with being blacklisted?

You can throttle PHP list to send out as little/as much as you want:
http://forums.hostgator.com/showthread.php?t=3574 - Our limit on shared servers is 500/hr.

As far as blacklisting goes, you should not have a problem with that as long as your emails are all opt-in. If you do run into an issue though, we do have a department here that specializes in accounts/ips that are blacklisted.

I'm not sure what I'm concerned about to be honest. Because I've never run a list before. I've just read on a few forums that if you run your list from your own server you run the risk of being reported as a spammer. I don't think I'll have a problem since I'll be starting really small. It will probably take a long time to make the list big enough to even worry about these things.
