PHPlist was looking to be a promising feature of the Fantastico package... problem is, it doesn't work.

Is there another mailing list feature that can be added to Fantastico instead?

Paul, did you ever get phpList working? If not, did you find some other solution?

Best wishes, Eric

PHPlist is an excellent product and has amazing features!

To the OP : PHPlist is installed in test mode by default - you need to manually change the config.php (there are many other config params there to optimise your setup!).

What exactly needs to be changed in config.php? I'm getting an error when I try and access phpList after installation...I get an"Internal Server Error".

I have tried to install a number of the applications available via Fantastico. Some work, some don't, with that same "Internal Server Error". I'm wondering if it is the same problem with each that doesn't work.

I'm having the same problem. I disabled my htaccess and php.ini files but that didn't help.

Edit: I found a solution here:

in general, about any time you have a 500 server error, there will be either a configuration problem or a permissions problem with the script. normally, it's simple to fix once you track it down. it looks "scary" because it sounds so official, but these are usually simple issues.

glad you got it worked out.

Try putting:

magic_quotes_gpc = On

in your PHP.ini file for the phpList directory (/lists).

OK, I had this exact problem 2 days ago and here's the response that I got back from support:

"I've commented out the last line on your htaccess file which is not allowed"

This was the line:
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on

I did point out to him that I installed the script via fantastico and it might just make sense to have the script corrected and his response was:

"
We run tighter security controls with our server than most hosts. So that normally would not be an issue I will submit a request to have that updated. Thank you
"

Hopefully this will be adjusted in the near future for other users. I ended up not using fantastico and installed it manually. Just need to remember to update the file after doing upgrades.

Manual installs r great for somethings

Always easier when you start at step 1 and begin it on ur own.

Glad you guys got it fixed i've installed phplist manually and never got any errors fantastico is great when it works bad when it don't .
