Default phpbb Installation Options

It seems there are numerous installation options for phpbb. It would appear that you can use something called "QuickInstall" as well as "Fantastico De Luxe" and of course a manual install. Both QuickInstall as well as Fantastico seem to be prepared to install the latest version.

I am wondering what the relative merits of each installation are for a totally new forum (no migration needed)? I am not looking to create extra work if it isn't necessary, but I will go through the extra steps if there is a real advantage.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello,

These systems all essentially do the same thing, just in different ways. In regards to pre-configuration both Fantastico and QuickInstall will do the same options and direct you to the correct area for further configuration.

Best thing about both of these tools is if you're not happy or would like to start over, you simply uninstall the script using the tool that created it and start fresh.

If you have any further questions please feel free to let us know.

Have a wonderful day.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

Is there any reason I'd want to do a manual install then versus these automated installations? Is there any advantage to going in that direction?

Thanks again.

Hello,

The manual installation is really just for when people don't have the other options available to them in my opinion. In my experience they dont offer any extra customization or anything. Or atleast nothing that can't also be done after the install is completed.

Hope this is helpful!

There is a reason for installing phpBB manually and that is getting support over at phpBB.com should you need it for any reason.

phpBB.com will not give you support should you install your forum using any kind of auto install script
